NEW PAPER ALERT - Our meta-analysis with @real_k_diehl and @ProfWendyWood is out @JofMarketing ! Are you curious about the impact of mental simulation on consumer behavior? We analyzed the 40-years of literature and data from 40,705 respondents. #Thread
(4/4) Mental simulation has limited impact in low motivation contexts like online samples. Marketers should use it strategically for higher involvement purchases where consumers are motivated to vividly imagine usage experiences.
(3/4) Repeating mental simulation prompts over time (e.g. #weekly#ads) is more effective than massing them together (e.g. #retargeting#ads). Spacing out the imagination prompts, akin to real marketing campaigns, leads to better behavioral results.
