@lxeagle17@SplitTicket_@TheArgumentMag I don't see it mentioned, but does the model account for fundraising? If it does, which seats have the steepest gradient of win probability with respect to a marginal dollar?
@dylanmatt Some ideas if you want to add economists:

I know it's boring and repetitive to talk about how grossly evil Trump is, but the fact remains: Trump is grossly evil, in a way that's pretty much unprecedented in this country.
NEW: SSA has spent hundreds of millions of dollars trying to update the occupational data used in disability adjudications.
It's a bipartisan priority that was tucked in a controversial overhaul that SSA abandoned last week -- so its now unclear when SSA will move to new data👇
People claim that immigration will depress the wages of low-skill workers. People also claim that immigrants are net fiscal negatives. What nobody seems to have noticed is that these are contradictory! 1/
One thing that's forgotten in all the culture war fighting is that Donald Trump is uniquely incompetent at actually running the country.
He didn't *PLAN* to shut down Medicare portals and stop paying the guys guarding ISIS prisoners. He's just stupid and bad at his job.
IIA is sufficient to prevent two things:
1. No spoilers (Ralph Nader)
2. No cloning
Maskin shows that Borda & modified IIA avoids 1 — but that still leaves 2

Theory of CEQA: Consider alternatives before doing something big & risky.
Practice of CEQA (via today's Executive Dir.): Expedite massive rebuild of sprawl in toxin-soaked firelands.
No study, no alts: E.D. applies only if you're rebuilding same structure in same place.

This is one of the reasons that I get cranky with New England NIMBYs. This region is arguably the least vulnerable to climate change. Refusing to build here effectively pushes people into those areas. It’s wrong to criticize those places when we’re not building here. 1/2
This paper indicates the possibility that we could essentially solve the fertility crisis in the West if housing was made acquirable for people when they are young.
It makes intuitive sense that if people don't have space to have kids near to where they want to live, they will have fewer kids.
We can observe that in most urban centers in Europe: house prices have increased vastly over the last 20 years, and fertility has fallen over the same period.
But if this research holds up, it may be a fixable problem! This is monumental news.
@anantsudarshan For resource economists at least, Hotelling's 1931 paper on resource extraction is still important reading. And the model in his 1929 paper on spatial equilibrium is a good jumping-off point to teach basic micro model design.
Give people housing and they'll have kids!
Obtaining housing increases the average probability of having a child by 3.8% and the number of children by 3.2%.
For 20 to 25-year-olds, the corresponding effects are 32% and 33%.
“each additional H-1B visa issued reduces the deficit by over $827,000… Thus, doubling the H-1B visa cap would reduce the deficit by over $70 billion in net present value terms every year.”
Insane we aren’t trying to fill the country with as many of these people as possible.
President Biden claiming Japan's investment in an American steel company is a threat to national security is a pathetic and craven cave to special interests that will make America less prosperous and safe. I'm sorry to see him betraying our allies while abusing the law.
America's strongest Asian ally—a country whose constitution we wrote, whose military we control, and whose islands we have occupied with 55,000 troops & huge naval bases for 80 years—is a national security threat because they want to invest too much in saving our steel mills
Some thoughts on Roberts' year end report. It is - par for the course for him - totally tone deaf. But we are all, to varying degrees complicit in spreading the fiction that the judicial branch isn't just as political as any other part of government. https://t.co/2Rfgm2Nc7q
Okay. So I've wanted to articulate this for a while, but never really knew how.
But I'm personally absolutely, completely disgusted with the Democratic Party — *my* party, in many ways — and not because of the party moving "too far left/right". Let me explain.🧵
