10 years ago: 1 Crore used to feel a lot. Now, it doesn't.

By 2045, 5Cr won't feel enough.
By 2055, 10 Cr won't feel enough.

Money grows with time: that's "power of compounding".

But, people don't talk enough about-- that the buying power of money shrinks with time. That's "power of inflation".

What matters? is money your growing faster than real inflation?

If it doesn't: you get punished by inflation.
If it does: you get rewarded through compounding.

If you only invest in Gold, life looks great for you.

Gold has given a crazy run-up. And, you must be chuckling reading stories like: "My Grandmother is beating fund managers"

Cool. But, here is the problem: you are comparing Gold's best days (highs) to Equities normal days (average/lows).

Here is another issue: if you are a 100% gold investor. And, you decide to sell gold now. Where will you reinvest?

This is called as reinvestment risk with assets.

Therefore, most of the gold bugs will not sell now.
And, they will see a correction.
(Maybe not right away. But, at some stage).

At that stage, if you run the numbers again at that point: the results between Equity vs Gold might be very different.

There is a reason why: you need to invest across asset classes (Equities, Gold, Cryptos, RE)

Why? because rotating capital becomes easier.

Inspite of the latest fall, markets have done well only over the last 1 year.

Nifty is still up 22%
Midcap is up 34%
Smallcap is up 35%

Investors who have invested for over a year are still in green, the problem is the ones who have invested in the last 2-3 months.

Here’s the perfect test if you can stick to your “I am investing for long term” mindset. Remember, markets are doing what they are meant to do but you will only create wealth if you also do what you are meant to do, be a long term investor.

According to a 2012 RTI filing, there were 8 Lakh people with more than 1 Cr in Agriculture income, who paid ZERO taxes in India.

[1] 1% farmers in India own more than 10 hectare of land. And, they are by no standards poor.

And, as per a paper by the erstwhile Planning Commission, if we could tax even 0.04% richest farmers, it would generate 50,000 Cr of tax gains.

[2] This money is enough to run the MGNREGA scheme for a year.

This post is not against farmers.
It is about getting the rich to pay their fair dues.

[3] It doesn't make much sense why a normal corporate employee making 25K/month should be carrying the burden of taxes for Crorepati farmers.

Widening the tax base would not hurt the government's revenues.
And, it would improve the life of a normal tax payers.

But, guess how many political parties are talking about it?
