Next, @gioasempre is talking about a number of mistakes which he feels occurred. He highlights that the #BWCMX (meeting of experts) and the annual #BWCMSP failed to work well together, with the experts' recommendations often being relitigated and modified. #1972BWC #BWCRevCon

After a challenging week, #BWCMSP managed to adopt a final report at last, at the expense of holding the 1st PrepCom. States Parties need to redouble their efforts to make the 2022 #RevCon a success. #1972BWC

This morning, I would like to call upon young people to reflect on this powerful message from @FilippaLentzos who shared her interesting story of change. It may get you out of comfort zone, but there's joy from the impact made. #BWCMSP @NTI_WMD @BWCISU

My first ever expert comment for @ChathamHouseISR! "COVID-19 has highlighted the need for the Convention to adapt to a new biothreat landscape and address new pathways to infectious disease outbreaks". Give it a read! #BWCMSP 🧬🧫🧪🔬👩‍🔬 https://t.co/WePAjwmopa

🇰🇪🇨🇦🇬🇧 Meeting with Kenyan scientific experts from @nacosti on sidelines of #BWCMSP in Geneva, alongside Canadian colleagues, to discuss biosecurity challenges. Dynamic and serious about the path ahead - plenty of opportunities for 🇰🇪to collaborate with @GPWMDofficial.

The #BWCMSP chair just called on the US Delegation - "Uh, I only raised my flag seconds ago, I would appreciate if we could hear from Brazil so I can make up what I'm going to say."

And the #1972BWC #BWCMSP is currently discussing their funding shortfalls, with a bunch of details - but the bottom line is that some countries don't pay their dues, and the UN can't take money from others to make up the budget shortfall.

I will add that, as usual, the notes from @CBWEvents are excellent as more general overviews of what is being discussed in the meetings. (They are also short - 2 pages of notes for each day of the #1972BWC #BWCMSP.)

I will, once again, be tweeting interesting excerpts and notes about the #1972BWC #BWCMSP. Venezuela is speaking now, and I want to note that their language about biorisks, and that of many others, very much seem to reflect awareness of so-called GCBRs and longtermist thinking.
