The biggest victim of the unjust Bengaluru Metro fare hike is the common man.
Instead of standing with commuters, the State Government continues to mislead the public. The facts are undeniable - and to highlight this truth, I’ve worn it on my tee today.
The State Govt, admitting to its poor management of finances, sought an increase of metro fares & shifted the burden on the commuters. State Govt officials also sought an annual automatic fare revision, which they said would come into effect from 9th February.
Its own submissions reveal the hike is triggered by its inability to continue Shadow Cash Support, the financial cushion that helped BMRCL manage operational losses and loan repayments while keeping fares affordable.
The CM, DCM's inaction has now placed the burden daily on the lakhs of commuters of Metro. Even a marginal hike in prices disproportionately impacts ordinary citizens.
Congress must stop this blame game. Own up, request a new Fare Fixation Committee and roll back this unjust fare hike.

The tragedy is the high fares are based on flawed inputs & misapplication of the formula (which wasn't even required)
When the actual audited cost increase is 40%, BMRCL used a formula, misapplied it & got a 71% fare increase.
