Ten years ago, Laura Serino (@laura_serino) and I scrambled to get our first #ECFLive off the ground. The vibe was very much βOh, our closing party is in 3 hours. We need to head to the grocery store to buy some drinks!β
But it was awesome. We had ~50 amazing entrepreneurs show up and kick-started what would become an annual tradition.
We recently wrapped up #ECFLive in New Orleans with 250+ 7- and 8-figure store owners and had an amazing time. And weβre no longer hauling booze on bus carts through the hotel lobby. π
This week on the podcast, Bill DβAlessandro (@billda) and I break down our biggest takeaways from the event. The big themes that kept bubbling up were:
β’ Diversify your cash flow! @RomanEcom dropped major wisdom on building wealth through both dividends AND growing your enterprise value. And we shared the liquid net worth value where many entrepreneurs feel a sense of personal security and can start taking bigger swings.
β’ Finance is the new black. π€ Goodbye ad hacks, hello P&Ls! Even the techiest marketers are geeking out on the numbers as a way to support their advertising campaigns.
β’ TikTok Shops is about to explode (watch your back, Zuck). Itβs a great opportunity for those in certain niches and at lower AOVs. π¬
β’ Creative is still king in paid ads. @DavidHerman schooled me on the shift to brand-centric campaigns. Less levers, more branding, and storytelling.

Also my body doesn't know what just hit it. Time to get 18 hours of sleep and guzzle a few gallon of water. Predicting record low WHOOP scores on the horizon. Totally worth it. π

Takeaways from @RomanEcom at #ecflive on building a portfolio doing $30M in EBITDA.
- Read WHO: The A Method. Failure rate for hiring went from 70% to 10%.
- 1st time founders are obsessed with product. 2nd time founders are obsessed with distribution.
- Rule of thumb: Aim for $1M of Revenue per FTE.
- Never let junior team members run free without intense guidance. To solve for: 1) multiple daily check-ins 2) KPIs that are black and white 3) Standardize and automate all KPI reporting.
Not sure Iβve seen a more compelling title for story/presentation. Killer presentation from LaTesha Burrows at #ecflive.
