A recent study using #autoantibody reactome analysis revealed the presence of 2 distinct molecular subtypes in relapsing #polychondritis (RP):
◦ Subtype 1 RP (primarily driven by #humoral immunity): patients with a marked increase in autoantibody levels, accompanied by a higher prevalence of involvement in the joints, eyes, and nervous system, as well as a greater recurrence rate and active disease.
◦ Subtype 2 RP (primarily driven by #cellular immune responses): patients with negligible antibody expression, accompanied by predominantly respiratory and nasal symptoms.
This study also identified 14 novel #autoantibodies with a significant diagnostic performance: specificity of more than 90% and sensitivity of 41% and 49.7% in differentiating RP from healthy controls and disease controls. Among these antibodies, anti-C4B and anti-KRT16 are potentially useful in the assessment of disease activity and the prediction of recurrence.
