A decade of heavy investment in complex formulations, biosimilars, integrated ADC platform and recombinant albumin was funded with debt that once weighed heavily on the balance sheet. That phase is now largely over.
Leverage has been repaired (Net Debt/EBITDA down to 1.3x), return ratios have turned (adjusted ROCE 18.3%), and the credit rating has been upgraded to AA–.
Management indicated no significant fresh capex is required in biologics or albumin for the next few years.
The real attraction is operating leverage that is only beginning to show. Margins stayed firm this quarter even as gross margins faced some pressure — the fixed-cost base is being absorbed by a larger revenue stream.
Plants, approvals and R&D are largely paid for, so incremental revenue should carry better economics.
The pipeline is unusually differentiated for a company of this size. It sits in first-in-class (NorUDCA), 505(b)(2), complex transdermal, liposomal and biosimilar products where competition is structurally lower.
On top of that is one of the few Indian end-to-end ADC and clone-to-vial CDMO platforms that global innovators prefer.
Risks remain real: monetisation depends on partners’ regulatory timelines, CDMO is still early commercially, licensing income can be lumpy, and disclosure is limited.
Overall — the heavy lifting is done. Execution and pipeline conversion will now decide the pace of compounding.
