💡This workshop will guide non-technical audiences through the complexities of mobile communications in the occupied territory, helping them navigate industry-specific news and reports. Participants will explore the correlation between access to connectivity and human rights violations in Gaza, while gaining a theoretical framework that can be used across various professional fields.
The session will introduce the Gaza Online initiative, which seeks to provide a sustainable source of connectivity to people within Gaza, from medical staff and distant learners, to remote workers and journalists. We will also explore the concept of e-Sims—a critical innovation in mobile communications—and discuss how these technologies are being used to overcome connectivity challenges in the region. Through real-world examples, participants will understand the vulnerabilities in Gaza’s mobile network and how these issues impact various sectors, from education to healthcare and beyond.

Do you want to speak about the targeting of journalists in the West Bank? This is a discussion about field experiences from the past two years in networking of Arab and international organizations. Each of us can make a difference, so that we are not helpless under the exceptional circumstances that Palestine and the entire Arab region are going through.

💡In conflict zones, internet shutdowns are increasingly used to silence communities, disrupt communication, and control the flow of information. This session will explore the global landscape of digital rights violations and the essential role of advocacy and collective action in pushing back.
From Sudan to Ukraine, Myanmar, and Ethiopia, we’ll examine global efforts through Access Now’s #KeepItOn campaign, which has been at the forefront of challenging internet shutdowns as a human rights violation. We’ll explore successful advocacy tactics such as litigation, multilateral engagement, and international partnerships, while examining the patterns and impacts of shutdowns across different regions. Join us to learn how international advocacy can protect connectivity and ensure accountability for those responsible for digital rights violations.
