I’m a law-abiding American who paid higher prices because of Trump’s unlawful tariffs — and I’m done watching the government stall while I eat the bill. The Supreme Court said those tariffs exceeded lawful authority. That means the money taken under them was illegal. Not “controversial.” Not “gray area.” Illegal. Here’s what must happen — no loopholes, no slow-walking, no bureaucratic bullshit: 1. Full refunds. With interest. Every dollar collected under unlawful authority gets returned. If the president never had the power to impose it, that money was never the government’s to keep. 2. 180-day hard deadline. Customs pays it back within 180 days of enactment. No “subject to rulemaking.” No endless administrative reviews. A clock. A consequence. 3. Small businesses first. The mom-and-pop importers and manufacturers who got crushed by these tariffs go to the front of the line. Not multinational giants with armies of lawyers. 4. No “liquidated entry” games. If the duty was illegal, it gets refunded. Period. I don’t want paperwork technicalities used to keep stolen money. 5. Mandatory transparency. CBP reports every 30 days: how much refunded, how much outstanding, how long it’s taking. Until the last dollar is paid. 6. No double-counting stall tactics. Coordinate with drawback rules, fine. But that cannot become a pretext to drag this out for years. 7. Public pressure on corporations. Refunds go to importers. Congress should make clear that savings are expected to flow through to consumers — and haul executives into hearings if they pocket the windfall. This isn’t a partisan gripe. It’s basic rule of law. When the government takes money it had no legal authority to take, it gives it back. Quickly. In full. With interest. Anyone who blocks that doesn’t get to lecture the country about “law and order.”
