If you would like to speak to someone also passionate about this - @bookcareers held a workshop at the #sypconf18 using #SYPCV #workinpublishing #WIPcv
Don’t forget you can review all the gems of information from today’s #SYPConf18 by searching the individual hashtags from each panel: #SYPFuture, #SYPBias, #SYPSwitch, #SYPSlashie, #SYPCV, #SYPWomen, #SYPEveryone, #SYPDare, #SYPCrowd, #SYPBeyond, #SYPUpLit, #SYPCovers, #SYPPirate
When you’re writing a CV, make sure you stipulate your IT Skills including social media - this includes the below😊😊 #SYPConf18 #SYPCV
10) make sure you elaborate and provide context to your skills and experience. What does 'communication' mean? 'Liaising with authors daily' is a clearer example.
Instead of 'administration' you can list tasks like 'processing invoices' or 'diary management'.
#SYPCV #SYPConf18
'Editing skills' on a CV is too vague. What have you been editing? How many manuscripts or articles a year? The employer wants to know what you can do. #SYPCV #SYPConf18
Listing 'enthusiastic' and 'organised' as key skills is a waste of time. They're meaningless and over used. Try and highlight how you're different and what makes you stand out #SYPCV #SYPConf18
In the #SYPCV #SYPConf18 workshop with @SuzanneCollier getting lots of top tips:
1) Don't use CV templates. How many other candidates are using the same?
2) Avoid columns, it's harder to know where to look on the page.
3) Stay away from colour/graphics unless it's a design job.
Never use a work email address! There's nothing worse than showing a future employer that you're spending company time job hunting #SYPCV #SYPConf18
Always use black text on white paper, no graphics or colours unless you're going for a design job. You never know how it will print the other end #SYPCV #SYPConf18
I’m very keen to hear @SuzanneCollier advice on CVs & Cover Letters. Seeing 30+ new ones every single day, we all have our opinions and I’m sure you’ve heard lots of different ones. #SYPCV #SYPConf18
If there are hundreds of applicants for one job, your CV may get 5-10 second of attention during the first round. You need to lay out if CV so that it delivers quick info. #SYPCV #SYPConf18
This one is something I am extremely passionate about. CVs & Cover Letters are the only thing in the way of you getting an interview for the right job! #SYPCV
Attending @SuzanneCollier’s CV Clinic workshop in Stream 1? Don’t forget to follow the link to complete the survey *ahead* of the day in your delegate email - and don’t forget to bring your CV along! #SYPConf18 #SYPcv
