@JuliaKingsford "How do we offer a better service as literary agencies that makes our lives better as well as those of our authors?" #SYPConf18 #SYPEveryone
#SYPEveryone #SYPConf18 so how can those in the traditional industry help those in less privileged positions?
Crowdfunding is not for everyone. You have to also be a good sales person. At the #SYPEveryone panel, Publishing for Everyone #SYPConf18 #publishing #books
.@Joelle_o: it's a business so I beg you to do your research, for example think about where your book belongs in a bookshop. @JuliaKingsford: you want to be crowdfunding for a reason, rather than just because there's no other way #SYPeveryone #SYPConf18
I gotta change my mind frame, @Joelle_o’s point about not just thinking about self-publishing as purely creative, it’s a business. Essential to look at success stories from crowdfunding and envision where your novel could be placed in a bookstore! #SYPConf18 #SYPEveryone
"A book needs an investment of your own time and effort. How do we get people to invest? Fifty Shades came about because of parents talking at the school gates." #SYPConf18 #SYPEveryone
#crowdfunding doesn’t necessarily guarantee sales . . .

@JuliaKingsford "If you have a community who actually care about what you are doing it is a great route to market... If not you won't succeed with crowd funding." #SYPConf18 #SYPEveryone
I admire what @TarnRichardson said about @StephenKing, that he is always writing ahead of the trend-curve. If only we could all create novels that become the baseline of horror literature! #SYPConf18 #SYPEveryone
"The Good Immigrant wouldn't have sold anything like what it did without bookshops." #SYPConf18 #SYPEveryone @JuliaKingsford
‘There are two types of writers. You have head-in-the-cloud writers... and you have copy-editors.’ @TomRichardson #sypeveryone #sypconf18
Time for #SYPEveryone at #SYPConf18! So why do authors turn to crowdfunding platforms and away from traditional publishing?
«Publishing is a lot about timing. Crowdfunding is about you breaking that rule, is about saying ‘publishing is still not ready for this book, but I think the world is!’» @TarnRichardson

.@joelle_o, @unbounders, on the crowdfunding publishing model: there are books that should exist, but whose authors have sort of been shut out of traditional publishing #SYPConf18 #SYPeveryone
