4,249 Abandoned Vehicles Identified Across City

Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda launched a major drive in Gandhi Nagar to tow away abandoned vehicles encroaching on public roads, marking a new phase in the city’s #SafeFootpath Campaign.
Speaking at the launch,Krishna Byre Gowda stressed that roads are public property and cannot be treated as private parking lots. “It is not right for some people to park their vehicles on the roadside and not remove them even after years, and to treat the roads as if they are their own property. This causes problems for motorists and pedestrians.” he said.
He explained that a sticker campaign had been initiated ten days ago to warn owners of such vehicles. Since many failed to act despite notices, the towing operation has now been formally rolled out.
According to data compiled using Astram software:Traffic Police Identifications: 2,751Public Identifications: 1,498Total Abandoned Vehicles: 4,249
Across the five City Corporations under the Greater #Bengaluru Authority (#GBA), notices have been affixed to 1,034 vehicles. Of these, 72 owners have already paid penalties and reclaimed their vehicles.The minister emphasized that the campaign is aimed at easing congestion and restoring pedestrian safety. “Since the owners did not remove their vehicles despite affixing the stickers, the towing of the vehicles has been officially started today,” he declared.

Bangalore's moment will truly arrive, the day @DKShivakumar and @krishnabgowda announce a major investment to build pedestrian friendly streets or inauguate a project to this effect. It will be a landmark decision not for anything but the kind of real joy it will bring among millions of people who simply want safe, walkable, and livable neighbourhoods. Of so many projects on flyovers and tunnels, I'm sure a few can be dedicated for designer footpaths and walkable streets.
I don't think the day is too far with the way both the Ministers have shown their intentions from day one. May God give them more strength!!!

Can someone please explain to me how this awning harms pedestrians and how breaking it helps any pedestrian ? I walk a fair bit and these awnings are useful in rain!
