End elephant captivity. Let them be wild and free.

PROOF ENOUGH. ELEPHANTS BELONG IN THE WILD, NOT IN CAPTIVITY.
The #Dasara procession in Shivamogga turned into a tragedy. An elephant carrying the #Ambari ran amok through the streets, damaging buildings and vehicles before the 650-kg silver Ambari fell to the ground.
How many more warnings do we need?
Elephants are wild, highly intelligent, sensitive beings, not ceremonial props to be paraded through crowded streets, surrounded by noise, chaos and people, with no freedom to choose where they belong.
Tradition can never justify putting lives at risk, human or animal.
Elephants belong with their families, roaming freely in their natural habitats. Not in chains. Not in processions. Not in temples.
Let devotion mean compassion. End elephant captivity. Let them be wild and free.

But in India instead of respecting the Elephants, they are kidnapped, chained, abused and ill- treated!

August 12 marks World Elephant Day.
Remember the famous Short Nose family? Five years after their journey north, they now live a peaceful life back in their homeland, Xishuangbanna — and the family is growing.
It’s a happy-ending story, but also a reminder that conservation is ultimately about giving wildlife room to live, grow and thrive.
A new name: NAMASHIVAYA. But what changes for this young elephant?
A sacred name cannot replace freedom, space or companionship. The mahout holds an ankush (bull hook) as the elephant stands amid a crowd for a photo-op, controlled by the threat of pain.
Rule 6(4) of the TN Captive Elephants Rules, 2011 requires a notice asking pilgrims not to feed temple elephants. When those in power ignore this on camera, devotees and children follow.
Reunite Hiralal, Durga, Bijuli, Shiva and Rupsing with their families. Stop further transfers. True devotion is compassion, not captivity!
@CMOTamilnadu @TVKVijayHQ - your subordinates are misleading you, please form a SIT & take action on all those who are involved in trafficking of elephants go Tamil Nadu from Assam.
Note the Knife & Dragging by the Ear of Hiralal in the 4th image.

Durga, Rupsing, Shiva, Hiralal, Bijuli and many other elephants like them belong in their native forests, accompanied by their family herds - not in temples or a so-called rescue center operated by some billionaire brat.

The Centre for Research on Animal Rights (CRAR), India, has urged the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) to investigate the transfer of five elephants from Assam to Tamil Nadu in September, alleging discrepancies in ownership records and raising concerns about possible illegal capture and commercial procurement disguised as gifts.
In a letter dated October 12 to the CITES Secretariat in Geneva, CRAR founder and lawyer Alok Hisarwala Gupta sought an inquiry into the transfers of Durga, Rupsing, Shiva, Hiralal and Bijuli to religious institutions in Tamil Nadu. The letter also called for cooperation among India, Nepal and Myanmar to examine possible links between domestic demand for elephants and cross-border trafficking networks.
The letter cited reports by Northeast Now, which has been covering the elephant transfers, as part of its submission seeking a CITES inquiry. Read more: https://t.co/2051B9wU2E

This extraordinary reflection by Edward Topsell speaks volumes about something humanity has recognized for centuries: there is something profoundly awe-inspiring about an elephant.
And yet today, five young elephants—Durga, Bijuli, Shiva, Hiralal and Rupsing—have been transported thousands of kilometres from Assam to Tamil Nadu, robbed from the world they knew and sent to religious institutions where these precious elephants will spend their lives confined, controlled and used in temple rituals.
Two of them—𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗶𝗷𝘂𝗹𝗶—𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗙𝗜𝗩𝗘 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗹𝗱. 💔
How did reverence become possession? How did devotion come to require removing these deeply intelligent, intensely social beings from everything an elephant naturally needs?

53 ANIMAL WELFARE NGOs APPEAL TO THE CM OF TAMIL NADU !!
We, 50+ NGOs have come together to urge the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu to constitute an independent Special Investigation Team (SIT) or high-level fact-finding committee into the transfer of five young elephants — Durga, Rupsing, Shiva, Hiralal and Bijuli — from Assam to Tamil Nadu temples.
The joint appeal raises serious questions about:
• Ownership and age records
• Possible trade disguised as “gift” or “donation”
• Doubtful paperwork and certificates
• Possible signs of wild capture
• The 3,000-km journey and alleged cruelty in transit
• Compliance with Tamil Nadu’s captive-elephant rules
• The use of these young elephants in temple rituals and processions
We are asking the Government to investigate first — before more young elephants are transferred.

🐘💔 ELEPHANT'S BABY DURGA - 5 YEARS OLD.
From Assam to Tamil Nadu, a journey of nearly 3,000 km. The image raises heartbreaking questions about her welfare, confinement, and alleged separation from her family.
How can this be called compassion?
Durga deserves dignity, safety and a life as close to nature as safely and scientifically possible.
Please investigate. Please verify. Please act.

@ShiUpadhyayula I volunteer at animal shelters and I've seen what lifelong confinement does to animals. Elephants need to walk miles, not stand in chains. Shame is the right word. #endelephantcaptivity #savethefive
This is how that 'cute temple elephant' lives for the rest of her day. Most captive elephants in India are tied up almost the entire time on both their legs. This is your 'Ganesha'! SHAME ON US!

Every single day ppl have been highlighting how cruel the transfer of baby elephants are & how tragic the videos coming out of TN temples are. Still there has been no reaction by @himantabiswa ! Assam called Durga, Bhonti (sister). You don't care for her fate?

🐘 CM @TVKVijayHQ, plz hear the call for Assam’s five elephants — Durga, Hiralal, Shiva, Rupsing & Bijuli. Plz ensure they return to Assam, get safe sanctuary home, away from temple captivity. Let them live with dignity. 🙏

This is absolutely barbaric. Both mother and baby elephant have been separated cruelly and now the mother is translocated and untraceable.
#SaveBijuli #SaveTheFive #ReuniteThemWithTheirMothers #StopElephantTransfers #WhyTheChains
LOOK AT LITTLE BIJULI.
The tiniest of the five baby elephants brought from Assam to Tamil Nadu temples.
All three legs tied. Holes through both the ears.
Weak. Frail. Famished.
And somewhere out there is her mother, Jaya.
Jaya was reportedly translocated to another State and is now said to be untraceable.
What does little Bijuli understand about temples, religion or devotion?
She only knows that she has been taken away from her mother and brought thousands of kilometres away—into a life of chains.
Kanchi Mutt already has three elephants. They had earlier sent them to a sanctuary saying they could not care for them properly, only to later get them back through court.
If this video of Bijuli does not move those responsible to act, what will?
Where is our kindness?
Where is our compassion?
And what does religion mean if we cannot show mercy to a helpless baby?
@CMOTamilnadu @CTR_Nirmalkumar @RameshOffcl @BussyAnand
@imrajmohan
Please save Bijuli.
Please find Jaya.
Please reunite this baby with her mother.
Save Shiva, Hiralal, Rupsingh, Durga & Bijuli. Send them back to their Mothers. They are just Babies. They don’t deserve such capital punishment of enslavement.
#SaveBijuli #SaveTheFive #ReuniteThemWithTheirMothers #StopElephantTransfers #WhyTheChains

@KanyaaKaushik This video shattered me. Are we really okay abandoning these babies and subjecting them to a lifetime of isolation?
