for me, a core idea is about making dynamics of systems legible such that people can recognize their agency in them, to shape them, to drive them as well as where the boundaries and restrictions are, where we have to yield to the environment—ultimately to see ourselves as an integrated part of the whole. user-friendliness has actually been anti-user. in the stretch to remove friction, we’ve obscured the system and removed choice when making a system legible and composable, we add friction. how can we present that friction as beautiful and harmonious functionality? we can make monuments that outlive us endlessly composable protocols so the forms should minimize the kind of superfluous decoration that requires arduous upkeep (unless that is the point of the protocol, in which case it wouldn’t be superfluous) they should make their systems legible, though not necessarily obvious, making them unlockable with certain incantations that signify alignment that doesn’t mean there can’t be delicate decorations, but they need to fit within those rules. generative art plays that role well. rules that are easily ported, composable, visible, and produce beauty (albeit there is some more thinking to be done on how these are conserved to further refine the rules) the incentives of crypto art reward (incompletely) longevity and composibility that support a network they reward the collective meaning making made possible in that network, something the participants become stewards of rather than mere consumers the forms would also follow those incentives, highlighting reputation and contribution. very interested to see how the rules and possibilities continue to evolve and the aesthetic language becomes more defined, and then itself something to push back against. if all media is training data, then is it welcoming to the machine eyes or hiding? what might it signal to the human eyes as to its state/ we are seen, we are unseen?
