#Traffic_Management @chennaicorp should prioritize scientific traffic engineering by correcting splays/bellmouths at T-junctions and intersections, and introducing properly designed roundabouts wherever feasible, instead of spending public money on cosmetic projects such as roadside shades. Similarly, instead of focusing on showpiece infrastructure, priority should be given to the revival of traditional waterbodies, feeder and supply canals, and grazing lands. #Traffic_Management #TNHighways_Department In continuation of the Dinamalar print media report dated 08/07/2026 regarding the eviction of encroachments on Velachery Road and MKN Road, Alandur, I invite the attention of the TNHW Department and all concerned administrative authorities to the long-pending systemic reforms required for sustainable traffic management and road safety. I also draw attention to my earlier representations and RTI petitions: MRTI 0210 dated 25/10/2023 – Proposal for the phased replacement of traffic signals with scientifically designed roundabouts wherever technically feasible, to reduce energy consumption, vehicular emissions, maintenance costs, and traffic delays.MRTI 0220 dated 19/03/2024– Request for a dedicated public website providing complete transparency on all Tamil Nadu Highways activities. MRTI 0278 MDR1166, Thiruverkadu – Ambattur Road.MRTI 0279 dated 17/05/2024 – SH 205, Vanagaram –Ambattur–Puzhal Road.MRTI 0280 – SH 112, Thirumangalam –Mugappair Road.Public Interest Petition MPT-PIP-0318 – Dedicated TN Highways digital portal for public disclosure of all administrative and engineering activities. The proposed digital platform should provide public access to: Complete inventory of National Highways, State Highways, MDRs and ODRs, including road code, name, length, width and Right of Way.Road junction layouts, intersection splays, road furniture, footpaths, bus shelters, traffic islands, roundabouts, medians, bridges and culverts.Estimates, administrative sanctions, technical sanctions, tender details, work orders, commencement, progress, completion status and maintenance schedules.Field inspection reports.Encroachment identification, notices, eviction proceedings and post-eviction monitoring.Road boundary surveys with GIS mapping.Permanent boundary demarcation using RCC boundary columns.Inventory and enforcement status of unauthorized hoardings, banners, placards, flag poles, wall posters, wall writings and other visual obstructions. The recent eviction drives are appreciated. However, eviction alone cannot produce lasting results. Unless every highway boundary is scientifically surveyed, legally demarcated and permanently protected with RCC boundary columns, encroachments will inevitably recur. The Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu @CMOTamilnadu, in his first address on 10/05/2026, emphasized #Accountability, #Transparency and #Goodgovernance , transcending every barrier of caste, religion, language, community, colour and economic status. These principles must now be translated into measurable administrative outcomes at every level of government. I respectfully request the Honourable Minister @AadhavArjuna to review drill-down performance reports from every Highways Division and ensure that governance reforms reach the end users—the people of Tamil Nadu—not merely through isolated eviction drives but through permanent institutional reforms. For achieving Safe Roads and an Accident-Free Tamil Nadu, I strongly recommend: Complete road boundary demarcation before every road improvement project. Installation of RCC boundary columns along all highway boundaries.Real-time public dashboards displaying encroachments, notices issued, evictions completed and follow-up inspections.Elimination of unauthorized hoardings, banners, placards, wall posters, wall writings and other roadside distractions. Strict coordination between the Highways Department, Local Bodies and Police.Registration of FIRs by Tamil Nadu Police against repeat offenders responsible for illegal hoardings, banners, posters and advertisements that endanger road users.Performance evaluation of field officers based on measurable reductions in encroachments, accidents and response time.Adoption of technology-driven governance with complete public transparency for every engineering and enforcement activity. The objective should not merely be periodic eviction drives, but a permanent transformation of Tamil Nadu's roads into safe.
