Muybridge's Dusel the draft horse from twelve photographs of plate 563 on pages 1142 and 1143, Volume III of #AnimalLocomotion in 1887. These photographs were taken between 1884 and 1885.
I don't know the buffalo's name.
Muybridge was using the newer gelatin-bromide plates and by the end of 1885 #Muybridge had spent over $30,000 in research. The work was published as 'Animal Locomotion; An Electro-Photographic Investigation of Consecutive Phases of Animal Movement.'

EADWEARD JAMES MUYBRIDGE (1830-1904)
Muybridge produced more than 100K plates of humans and animals at the University of Pennsylvania with a number of different set-ups;
📸 3 batteries totalling 12 cameras;
📸 40 cameras equipped with a Dallmeyer lens and electro-magnetic shutter

In addition to his interest in anatomy, Eakins was attracted with human mobility and animal forms in motion. His interest in #animallocomotion led him to become acquainted with Eadweard Muybridge's work in sequence #photography in #California.
Eakins primary interest in researching and presenting the human figure dates back to his college days. In contemporary Philadelphia, Eakins found few themes that allowed him to depict the unwrapped human body, particularly females.
Nature's designs often reveal surprising truths about movement. Do rhythmic techniques’ simplicity genuinely conceal the complexities of evolution? -By Adrian Bejan @constructal @DukeU
