The Mercator projection, widely used for more than 400 years, distorts the true size of continents.
For generations, this representation has contributed to a diminished perception of the African continent, including through the maps used in schools.
The #CorrectTheMap initiative calls for Africa to be represented in its true dimensions. Because the way a continent is shown can also influence the way it is perceived.
The goal is simple: to allow the world to see Africa as it truly is, in its full scale and significance.
