We found that inhibition or deletion of #STING, #cGAS, or #IFI16 in norovirus-infected cells resulted in a significant reduction in #interferon-β induction and an increase in viral replication, showing the importance of the cGAS-STING pathway in controlling #noroviruses. (3/7)

Our study shows that the cGAS-STING pathway, which is essential in the immune response against DNA viruses, also plays a role in the restriction of noroviruses, the most common cause of infectious gastroenteritis worldwide. #cGAS #STING #IFI16 (2/7)

Our study also shows that #IFI16 is a specific #TLR4-ligand, pointing to a new mechanism of #inflammation with the formation of complexes between extracellular #IFI16 and subtoxic doses of #LPS variants, which then signal through #TLR4. Hope to have more to share soon. 3/3

We used different approaches to show that #IFI16 protein, once freely released in the extracellular milieu of chronically inflamed tissues, can function as a #DAMP either alone or upon binding to #LPS. 2/3
