#HS2 needs to be built IN FULL. No #DelayHS2 nonsense, we need all of it (and more) ASAP. Rolling programme of #Electrification, #LocalRail schemes (#Leeds Tram etc) should be AS WELL AS #HS2 not instead of.
Do BOTH #HS2 and sort out #LocalRail in #Leeds, no need for the either or nonsense being spouted out: WE NEED BOTH, LETS FINANCE BOTH.
How many people are there sitting next to Leeds station who are prepared to wait for far more than 20 years for HS2 to whisk them to a station somewhere in the West Midlands, hopefully somewhere near where they want to go? Sort out the transport in Leeds.

Bus systems as said before have limited top speeds (60mph max) and in urban areas average speed will be very low due to stop/start nature of bus services. I agree we need more #LocalBuses but IN ADDITION TO HS2, not instead of. The two complement one another; #Buses & #LocalRail short trips, HS2 long trips.

HS2 has capacity for the long distance work (the smaller percentage) while main bulk will shift over to #LocalRail, freed up by dedicated #HS2 lines taking long haul stuff off older routes.

Having a quick look @InvestEastCoast #InvestEastCoast and can't help but think a bypass of #MorpethCurve is probably justified: It would positively reduce #Scotland to #England journey times AND allow #Morpeth, #Pegswood and maybe #WiddringtonStation to gain more #localrail.
