Happy 500 ⭐️day to the #MicrosoftRocketbox avatars https://t.co/lYbwsXF9eD
This baby was born pre-pandemic, and had a family taking care of them. From the original creators, to the custodians at Havok. To the archeology I had to do to revive them. @MSFTResearch
I think this is the most consequential evolution after #MicrosoftRocketbox. The #VALID library presents a more balanced set of avatars validated for race, ethnicity & gender. Open sourced + ready for research! 👩🔬
I was of course thrilled to join @zyrcant et al in this endeavor.
Today, people often interact with others in virtual spaces and augmented reality using avatars. So, in partnership with @UCF, we have developed and are releasing a new library of AR/VR avatars, called VALID, which better represents the diversity of users. https://t.co/h5RgQqCeDV
3/ In 2019 I became a CS archaeologist 🕵️ and found my way to recover, update & revive the old #Rocketbox avatars (thanks to @HavokDave @MarkusWojcik). That ended as the release of v1 #MicrosoftRocketbox avatar library for research & academic use https://t.co/2JBOpUWEmG
For anyone using #MicrosoftRocketbox, they have recently updated the package to include 400+ animations (and facial blendshapes, not tried yet). They work well in #unity3d and will be valuable for anyone conducting research with virtual humans or #Avatars.

The Headbox for #MicrosoftRocketbox, presented by @volontematias. https://t.co/wN6vxcclKJ Includes: 1) A Maya plug-in to create and transfer blendshapes across the avatars on the library. 2) 100 prebaked blendshapes. 3) A Unity project that uses them. https://t.co/YhhyhNno4V
Mamma mia!
For me open sourcing and aggregating resources is a way to help on this vision. And I have been trying to help the community with libraries that can help move the needle on these areas. For example releasing avatar libraries #MicrosoftRocketbox or working on the #LocomotionVault.
Here finally (w the napping baby) getting something very dearly worked finished: a new release for the #MicrosoftRocketbox Avatars. @volontematias, @Eyal_Ofek and I have been working on this one for the last year. Stay tuned!!
Are we more inclined to get vaccinated if we have personally experienced the effect of herd immunity through virtual reality? That's what @VLL_UCPH researchers set out to find out in an large-scale test of a VR-game funded by @EITHealth on 5-6 June. #VirtualReality #psychology
Their explorations and needs also influenced me and were part of the reason I ended up building the #movebox for the #MicrosoftRocketbox https://t.co/iMEnEBrIL5
Update on the #MicrosoftRocketbox avatars. We now support the CMU animations dataset https://t.co/fxFXNh1Dvf. You can find CMU fbxs here: https://t.co/PKNfUG7TVe.
Here is a thread on how to fix the issue: https://t.co/y3ptuZ6k4n
The power of open sourcing tools: @twi_mar did a massive service to the research community by releasing the #MicrosoftRocketbox avatar library. This thread is just a subset of the cool projects that were enabled by freely available high quality avatars. #OpenScience
Coinciding with the 1 year release anniversary 🥳of the #MicrosoftRocketbox library of avatars (https://t.co/lYbwsXn00v)
I would like to do a blog post about how they have enabled your work and projects. Share here and send me an email ([email protected])
@twi_mar @melslater @Cornell_VR @StanfordVR @anthony_steed @MattPeachey3 @IAmSusanPersky @ProbablePrime @domnaban @guillefix @auract @NPelechano @Michael_J_Black Our team @etsmtl uses the #MicrosoftRocketbox avatars to study the effects of modulating the step length of an embodied self-avatar on gait symmetry. We will also present our work at #IEEEVR2021
@IAmSusanPersky @alexrios71 @twi_mar @melslater @Cornell_VR @StanfordVR @anthony_steed @IrisWillaert @ProbablePrime @domnaban @guillefix @auract @NPelechano @Michael_J_Black The @GemLabDal team has been making great use of the #MicrosoftRocketbox avatars in projects like StoryCreatAR, which is a toolkit for spatially-adaptive AR storytelling (being presented soon at IEEE VR 2021)!

Great contribution by @ProbablePrime on importing the #MicrosoftRocketbox avatars inside #NeosVR Here is a tutorial https://t.co/KcADxd300J
@benz145 I wonder if folks in this thread have used the #MicrosoftRocketbox or #Mixamo Avatars. And what do they think.
Finally made public a batch importer for #MicrosoftRocketbox with Unreal. A contribution from Joachim Tesch at Max Planck. Get it from our main repo https://t.co/lYbwsXn00v
Here my presentation of Movebox. A new mocap toolbox to animate the #MicrosoftRocketbox avatars. IEEE AIVR 2020 - in collaboration with @DalhousieU @Cornell_VR @uclcs @DavidsonCollege and @MSFTResearch https://t.co/RZvCPMekRG Available in github.
(Almost) everything there is to know about avatars. From how can they be made & animated. To the utility of free avatars. Bringing consensus between industry & academia on key aspects: what’s an avatar?... W the history of #MicrosoftRocketbox at center. https://t.co/2Dv3A7xybz
