⏳ After Decades, One Fact Has Not Changed
For more than a quarter of a century, discussions, consultations, meetings, seminars and policy dialogues have come and gone.
But one fact has remained unchanged:
#Kyrgyzstan does not recognize UNHCR mandate refugee status under its national legal system.
For those who remain, return to Afghanistan is not safe. Yet without national recognition, there is no secure legal pathway to local integration.
For more than a hundred UNHCR-recognized mandate refugees—most of them women and children—this has meant decades of uncertainty despite international recognition of their need for protection.
Recognition should not become a lifelong waiting room.
We respectfully ask donor governments, resettlement countries and humanitarian partners not to let this long-standing humanitarian situation disappear behind reports, meetings, strategies, public events and discussions.
The need for protection has already been recognized. The need for a durable solution remains.
