@Urban_Connector Most of the cycle track is great. However that 6 way weave cross-over at the intersection of Williams and 5th St is dangerous. I ride through there on my commute. I have not heard any reasonable engineering explanation for this spaghetti junction when I raised the question...
Twenty years after Hurricane Katrina, its legacy remains etched in both memory and infrastructure. Georgia Tech Professor Hermann Fritz, an expert in tsunamis and coastal hazards, was on the ground in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina made landfall.
Fritz stood atop the twisted sheetpiling to document the failures that drowned a city. Since then, he has led or joined more than a dozen post-disaster reconnaissance missions worldwide, from tsunamis to hurricanes, landslides, and earthquakes.
Today, he continues his work at Georgia Tech, studying the impact of coastal hazards to help prepare communities for the challenges ahead. 🐝 | https://t.co/ceLzdIEeZK #WeCanDoThat

🌊20 YEARS LATER: Tsunami warning centers, evacuation plans, & more resilient building codes were created to save lives. 70+ buoys monitor tsunami activity worldwide.
But until we can predict the next earthquake, the science still has a way to go in next 20 yrs.

🌊"The Indian Ocean Tsunami is a singular event in the sense that it changed everything," Dr. @hermfritz,
@CEEatGT tsunami expert.
Destructive waves came without warning & claimed nearly a quarter million lives, prompting a worldwide wake-up call.

"A climate-driven migration has already begun,” writes climate change journalist Abrahm Lustgarten in his must-read book, “On the Move: The Overheating Earth and the Uprooting of America." Part 2 of my review is his take on climate migration and Atlanta:

Underwater volcano eruptions can cause tsunamis, and @CEEatGT's @hermfritz is figuring out how using a volcanic tsunami generator in a wave basin to generate better models. 🌋🌊 https://t.co/F3Z0KdquMp
You might be surprised by what city is the tsunami capital of the continental U.S.!
Crescent City, California has been hit by tsunamis more than 30 times since 1933.
Why do you think that is? Get the answer on tomorrow's episode of The Earth Unlocked, premiering at 8/7c!
🚄 BIG NEWS: Sen. @ossoff's push to begin planning Atlanta to Savannah high-speed rail passed Congress tonight with bipartisan support.
Sen. @ossoff secured $8 million to begin the planning of a high-speed rail link between Atlanta and Savannah.
Florida International University has received $12.8 million to design a facility that will test a structure’s ability to withstand 200 mph winds and a 20-foot ocean surge. https://t.co/5vGmQbn9IS
The volcanic eruption in Tonga this month unleashed an atmospheric shockwave that radiated out at close to the speed of sound, pushing large waves across the Pacific to the shores of Japan and Peru, thousands of kilometres away. https://t.co/I6UFEZSSwo
Volcano-triggered tsunamis are exceptionally rare, which means the world's forecasting and warning systems aren't well equipped to deal with the aftermath. My latest for @Reuters. https://t.co/uK18trGfad
