Ever wondered why only inflammasomes that use ASC, but not those that do not use ASC, can mature IL-1β? ASC helps to recruit pro-IL-1β to ASC for caspase-1 processing! See: "Inflammasome adaptor protein ASC is a mechanistic checkpoint in IL-1β maturation" https://t.co/2wWDusQMaJ
So we blocked IFNγ in Mtb infected macaques and….the animals were fine. Turns out mice overestimate the importance of IFNγ in TB because IFNγ drives iNOS in mice but not macaques or humans. This means we don’t actually know how T cells suppress Mtb. https://t.co/vbdpLKjQCa
The new @NIH SciENcv Biosketch pissed me off so much today (lost 4 hours of my life) that I built a quick NIH Biosketch format converter. It lets you format each section while seeing both the preview and the HTML code at the same time.
It restored my sanity, a little.
Enjoy.
These findings suggest that approaches used for HLH may help guide treatment strategies for ICANS, especially when tailored to a patient’s unique immune profile.
Reach out if you are here—we’d love to see you!
We are so excited for #ASH25! If you are here, we’d love to connect and talk about our work on ICANS, IEC-HS, and hyperinflammation following cancer therapy.
Publication #2390 – “Fraternal but not identical twins: HLH and ICANS look a lot alike”
Using scRNAseq from pediatric B-ALL patients treated with CAR-T, we found that HLH and ICANS share biology despite clinical differences. We also show patients can reach similar toxicities through different immune pathways—offering insight into why events are difficult to predict

If you cant be at @ASH_hematology today at 2pm to see @seattlechildren and @COGorg own rockstar @RachelRau3 it’s worth checking out the paper! Out today in the NEJM. Blina for the win! https://t.co/oC8Mki14pb
New paper out @Nature - why are males more vulnerable to severe infections (ex acute #COVID), while females suffer more from autoimmunity (SLE, MS etc and also #LongCovid)? sex chromosomes or hormones?
Here we studied adaptation of human immune systems to gender-affirming testosterone treatment in trans-men assigned female sex at birth: https://t.co/HzCQI6GUwn
Congratulations Aya and Blair! @UW_M3D is so lucky to have you. I am so proud to have been a small part of your journey. Best of luck as you move into the future. Medicine is a bit brighter today! :)
Utah you are always so beautiful. I miss spending time in the mountains! Thank you @UtahBME and @H_Ghandehari for the invite. I am super excited to see the department and to share our work on HLH tomorrow.
Samantha Yeligar from Georgia and several other AAI Public Policy Fellows had the opportunity to meet with @SenatorWarnock during #PPFPHillDay. Thank you, Senator Warnock, for taking the time to talk with us and supporting biomedical research!
Had an excellent meeting with staff from @SenEricSchmitt's office about the importance of robust federal funding for biomedical research. @ImmunologyAAI and the immunology research community appreciate your support. #PPFPHillDay
Applications for our Summer 2024 Undergrad Internship are due March 15. We are excited to welcome another fantastic group of students in 2024!

The rare pediatric #PRV program offers incentives for companies to develop therapies for children living with #RareDiseases, less than 5% of which have treatments today.
NORD urges Congress to reauthorize the PRV program before it sunsets in September! #RareDiseaseWeek
