The vote that would create the United States was deadlocked, and the man who could break the tie was eighty miles away, dying of cancer, on the wrong side of a thunderstorm.
His name was Caesar Rodney. On the first of July 1776, while Congress argued itself toward independence in Philadelphia, he was stuck back in Delaware. He was tamping down Loyalist trouble, in constant pain from the cancer eating at his face and fighting for breath due to his asthma.
Then the letter came. Delaware's two delegates in Congress were split. One for independence, one against. Without a tiebreaker, the colonies would not stand united. And a divided front was exactly what the Crown was counting on.
He did not hesitate. He climbed onto his horse near midnight and rode straight into the storm. Lightning split the sky. The roads turned to sludge. A journey that normally took two days but he made it in eighteen hours. He stopped only to change horses, soaked with every mile.
He reached Independence Hall on the morning of July 2 just as the vote was called, still in his boots and spurs. Caked in mud. Thomas McKean never forgot the sight of him standing in the doorway.
Rodney walked in and cast his vote for independence. It broke Delaware's tie, and with that, not a single colony stood against the break from Britain.
On this day, 250 years ago, a dying man rode all night through a storm so America could be born.

It's ridiculous that NASA is launching a mission around the Moon this week that will send humans farther into space than ever before and it's getting almost no attention. A landmark moment in the history of our species. History books will care about this moment even if you don't.
Does The Lord of the Rings have Christian themes?

Let’s analyze this in more details
Gandalf ~ Prophet: Gandalf dies in Moria and is reborn as Gandalf the White. He guides and counsels others, shaping events toward good. Like Christ the prophet, who revealed God’s truth and called people to repentance, Gandalf’s wisdom helps save Middle-earth from Sauron.
Frodo ~ Priest: Frodo symbolically “dies” under the Morgul-knife and is healed by Elrond, yet continues to carry the Ring to Mount Doom. Like Christ, the High Priest, he bears suffering and sacrifice for the sake of others, helping to save Middle-earth.
Aragorn ~ King: Aragorn walks the Paths of the Dead and reappears in Gondor to restore order and lead his people. Like Christ the King, he rules with justice and courage, securing the victory over.
Additionally, The One Ring symbolizes sin and there are several Christian themes as well.
I have read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings series twice. It’s a fantastic series that I would highly recommend everyone to read.
I also recommend watching the movies.

To build a sustained human presence on the Moon, we are building @NASAMoonBase, prioritizing surface operations and scalable infrastructure.
- Frequent robotic landings and mobility testing including MoonFall drones
- Starting in 2027 nearly monthly cadence of equipment and rovers with scientific payloads landing on the Moon.
- Investments in power, communications, and surface mobility
- Scalable infrastructure to support long-term human presence
The objective is clear: build the foundation for an enduring lunar base and take the next step toward Mars.

The Artemis vision began with President Trump, but the SLS architecture and its components long predate his administration, with much of the heritage clearly traced back to the Shuttle era. As I stated during my hearings, and will say again, this is the fastest path to return humans to the Moon and achieve our near-term objectives through at least Artemis V, but it is not the most economic path and certainly not the forever path.
The flight rate is the lowest of any NASA-designed vehicle, and that should be a topic of discussion. It is why we undertake wet dress rehearsals, Pre-FRR, and FRR, and why we will not press to launch until we are absolutely ready.
The President’s National Space Policy envisions a Moon base, with repeated and affordable missions to the lunar environment. Along that journey, some functions that NASA has performed in the past and present may move to industry in the future, and that is when NASA recalibrates toward the near-impossible and undertakes the next grand endeavor.
Where Apollo ended at 17, Artemis will live on for decades as we explore and realize the economic and scientific potential of the lunar surface. It is where we will test hardware and operations, including resource manufacturing, nuclear power, and propulsion, the tools necessary to undertake human missions to Mars.
In short, Artemis II will be a historic mission, but it is still just the beginning. Where we go in the years ahead will inspire generations to come.
On January 27, we remember Gus Grissom, Ed White, and Roger Chaffee. The Apollo 1 fire was attributed to a “failure of imagination,” an inability to foresee how risk could compound in the most routine testing.
At @NASA we endeavor to never be blinded again, carrying those lessons forward in how we design, test, and fly. Their sacrifice demands nothing less.

Our accounts may have been quiet, but the Sun sure hasn’t! ☀️💥
So far, November has already seen six X-class solar flares and the strongest geomagnetic storm of 2025.
All but one of these flares — the X1.1 flare on Nov. 4, shown here at the lower left — erupted from the same active region on the Sun: AR14274. This composite image from NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory, or SDO, helps us visualize how AR14274 has moved across the Sun during that time. This composite image is created by overlaying SDO’s images from each flare onto each other.
Solar flares, which are intense flashes of light, do not themselves cause geomagnetic storms — but they are often associated with coronal mass ejections, giant eruptions of solar particles, that do. The three back-to-back flares in the middle of this image, erupting on Nov. 9, 10 and 11, were accompanied by coronal mass ejections that triggered the intense geomagnetic storm of Nov. 11-13, which led to aurora sightings as far south as Florida.

You can see the disturbance from the recent X5 solar flare covering nearly half of the Sun. It produced a fast, full-halo CME with a highly dense core.
With two preceding CMEs already on their way, this event will further intensify the geomagnetic activity on an already weakened magnetic field. The earlier CMEs are already arriving, but the one from the X5 flare has not yet reached Earth.
