Raising awareness of unsatisfied customers and their issues with new builders in the UK, including David Wilson Homes, part of the Barratt Homes group.
@raemarvin@walkerleej@DavidWilsonHome@homes_wilson@RedrowHomes We are overlooking a new development by the infamous DWH (and Miller Homes) and I can tell you that I cannot see a single house that isn’t built on the equivalent of a landfill site, covered up with a bit of topsoil.
@homes_wilson I was blinded by their claims of outstanding build quality, 5⭐️ NHBC gubbins and the aesthetics of my 2 bed semi. I moved in 5 years ago. My neighbours and I have reported several issues, some serious and all unresolved.
Leaks are one of the most common problems we have been contacted about on new builds. Almost 50% of new builds on site can have shower, toilet, sink, boiler, water tank or roof leaks from poor / incorrect installation practices. Sad but true. The major builders need to take note.
Yvette Davis has been battling with #LindenHomes for 9 years. Residents at various developments have been battling #davidwilsonhomes for 6+years, and this is just the tip of the iceberg. How is this allowed to happen? Builders often sell you the dream, and sadly fail to deliver.
This is awful. Often in new builds the soil stack is inside the property, exiting in the floor space of the loft insulation. Many have vents applied instead of a one way durgo, this allows moisture and smells to enter the loft space, which can also cause damp and mould issues.
@homes_wilson@DavidWilsonHome I've just discovered an unfinished soil pipe in a roof space which has led to sewage smells in the house. DW wouldn't give me plans to tell me where the soil pipes terminated, had to find it myself. Air Admittance Valves should have access, we have 3 soil stacks, no access panels
@prosser_elaine@DavidWilsonHome Often the builders response is so lacking and poor, that they will not respond in the allocated time and so NHBC will rule in your favour, but, this unfortunately can take a long time. As the response window for defect remediation needs to lapse.
@prosser_elaine@DavidWilsonHome Escalate to the head of customer care if you have not done so already and log a formal complaint with the builder via email. Keep all evidence and document the timeline and correspondence. If the builder does not respond or address, the NHBC should rule in your favour.
Poor design and plans are often changed part way through the development as faults develop. Yet the builders keep it secret. We are aware of homes in that had main electric box installed on the box section of the soil pipe, and grey water leaks that caused all electrics to short.
Barrett homes at it again. This estate is a complete time bomb. They’ve used a switch on an electric shower that can’t handle the output. Funnily enough… they stop using them later in the development. @BarrattHomes
They normally state the thickness of a pound coin is where the limit is. But in reality, cracks should be taken care of by the customer care team. Make sure you log the defect in the first 2 years, push the issue and if not resolved they remain liable for 6 years once reported.
Shocking and sadly very common. The developers often do not level the ground, and put a thin, poor quality turf on top of uneven, heavy clay soil. Normally if you document the lack of drainage and pooling of water, raise a case with NHBC. BDW usually offer £35 PSQM.
All too familiar. Tadpole Development in Swindon and many others similar. Uneven ground, poor quality soil, no drainage, rubbish under the soil. Pooling of water and lack of drainage is not acceptable. Typically DWH will offer £35 per sq meter if you press on the issue.
@homes_wilson@DavidWilsonHome When DWH won’t take responsibility for their contractors incompetent and unacceptable work and forces home owners to go through NHBC - allowing damage to continually worsen - while knowing they should be repairing the issue.
Ivybridge, Devon.
A property sold at £274,995 by Barratt Developments subsidiary David Wilson was valued last year by independent chartered surveyors at £1 after a catalogue of major defects emerged. The Surveyors said that without the problems, it would be worth £330,000.
