@academic_la It's too bad that most take a critique of military strategy as a personal attack. Rules of engagement always need to be at a high standard & non-combatants must be protected regardless of who the enemy is or what they've done in the past.
The NYT confirms what has been clear from the start. The IDF loosened its standards of proportionality and care for Gazan civilians in this war. The official order early in the war was that in order to kill a mid-level Hamas member, IDF officers could risk the death of 20 civilians.
As the NYT reports, "The order, which has not previously been reported, had no precedent in Israeli military history. Mid-ranking officers had never been given so much leeway to attack so many targets, many of which had lower military significance, at such a high potential civilian cost.
"It meant, for example, that the military could target rank-and-file militants as they were at home surrounded by relatives and neighbors, instead of only when they were alone outside."
Previously, the general rule had been five civilians and for much higher-up targets. Israel also put a lot less effort into preventing civilian deaths. Instead of using surveillance, the IDF used cellphone usage statistics, which are obviously very inaccurate in a war where service is often lost and children do not use cell phones.
The definition of a military target was widened to include lookouts and moneychangers who worked fro Hamas. So you could kill twenty civilians knowingly in order to kill a lookout. A clear violation of any logical form of proportionality.
Also warning signs like roof knocks were made optional in the war. That means that in practice, they were hardly used.
Thankfully, these orders were tightened in November. But 15,000 people or so were killed in those early stages. But the evidence makes it clear. Israel has not been careful enough in protecting civilian lives in Gaza.

Whether or not we agree with their politics, is it within constitutional limits to arrest parliamentarians by attacking the parliament? A fair question.
On Friday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf will hold nationwide protests against the unlawful and unconstitutional actions of this mandate-thief government that has crossed all limits to retain its illegitimate power. The attack on the Parliament to abduct sitting MNAs shows their desperation to go to any extent to stay in power, pushing Pakistan into further political and economic instability. Enough is enough!

Pakistan is unsafe if you are Baloch, Pashtun, Christian, Hindu, Khwaja Sira, Ahmadi, Shia, a woman, poor, a supporter of any political party or movement that dares to criticise the state, & the list goes on. The country is only liveable for about 5% of the population it seems.
@deepakbudki@ShashiTharoor@narendramodi I think that the human values across religions are very similar. Every religion forbids lying, stealing, hurting people.
