Mark Zuckerberg’s daughter told him she wanted to be like Taylor Swift.
His answer: “You can’t. That’s not available to you.”
He had taken August to a Swift concert. Afterwards, she told him she wanted to be like the singer when she grew up. Most parents would probably smile and encourage the dream. Zuckerberg gave her that answer instead.
In the interview below, he tells the story himself. And his daughter’s response is the part worth hearing.
August thought about it, then decided she wanted to grow up into someone other people would want to be like. Someone called August Chan Zuckerberg.
Her father’s reaction: “Hell yeah.”
Coming from Zuckerberg, that exchange is easy to admire and just as easy to question. There is ambition in wanting to become someone others look up to. There is also a lot of pressure in turning a child’s excitement after a concert into a conversation about becoming exceptional.
She went to see her favorite singer. She came home talking about making her own name.
Would you have answered your daughter the same way?
99% of Muslim apps leave this point unaddressed.
The Islamic day starts at Maghrib.
We decided to update our Hijri calendar to reflect that.
Whether you're in the app or on the lock screen.
No more confusion about which night in Ramadan it is.
Keep us in your duas.
@AdxmLFC@ThePillarsApp Thanks for sharing this. We’ve seen something similar from some other users are currently preparing an update that should fix it inshaAllah 🙂
One advice I always give iOS developers is to learn backend development and don't shy from using non Swift frameworks like NodeJS, Rails, Django, Go etc.

Last year we hosted a private Muslim Tech House in the SF/Bay Area.
It was a huge success (see quoted post), alhamdullilah.
Many of you reached out saying you wanted in next time ...
Well ... @muslimtechfest just announced San Francisco is happening in September 2024 ...👀
@shhhabaz, @zaarheed & I are considering renting and opening up our next SF Tech house.
This isn't 100% yet. Spaces would be very limited.
I want to gauge interest.
But if you want in, fill out the form in post below 🔗
If last year's trip is anything to go by, this will be one of the most memorable trips you will ever do inshaAllah.
I mean that.
I love bringing aspirational & like-minded Muslims together ... wonderful things always happen.
#1: Qibla UPGRADE 🧭
We want the @thepillarsapp to be the gold-standard when it comes to the Qibla functionality.
That's why we're adding:
✨ Calibration reminders to reduce the impact of magnetic & interference
✨ Under-the-hood improvements to performance
✨ Location update prompts for users using manual location
✨ Addressing a bug that resulted in stuck compasses
This is just the start ... there's a LONG way to go including compass direction verification & smart calibration.
Gaza tonight.
When the skies are lit with terror. Never forget the “civilized nations” that claim to be “peacemakers” governed by “international law” that manufactured this genocide.
Shame.
400 children.
The death toll in Gaza has now surpassed that. And the children are literally being pulled out with their limbs found in different places due to the impact of the blasts. This is not including the overall civilian death toll, the lost homes, the trauma, the starvation, the shut off water and electricity, the destruction of the hospital system, & the erasure of journalists to tell you their story.
Let’s agree that the murder of children is always evil no matter who does it. How do you feel knowing that Israel is murdering Palestinian children with full US weaponry and sanction, and the President and your favorite celebrities don’t have a word to say about it. By the way, collective punishment is a war crime by international legal consensus. But so is apartheid and that didn’t seem to matter either.
📣 It’s finally happening! Excited to share a sneak peak of @ThePillarsApp for Apple Watch ⌚️
Feel free to share your ideas!!
🛠️ Looking forward to getting a test build to our testers and receiving your feedback to help make this the most useful it can be inshaAllah!
