Just watched Mai Wapas Aaunga by Imtiaz Ali. Few thoughts.

What World War-II is to Hollywood, is what Partition is to Bollywood. The difference is WW-II plays out like a movie. An exceptionally evil side gets defeated by the home side. All endings land well. But with Partition, there is no happy ending, there is no closure. And that’s where a lot of partition based movies struggle.

Mai Wapas Aaunga is one such movie. A lack of closure in real life, encourages writers to invent closures, which look weak. Same happens here. Also, the 1st half doesn’t help, the Vendang Raina & Sharvari love sequence isn’t as convincing, for someone to remember it for 78 years. The guy passes the entire movie with just one expression.

If at all you watch this, do it for Naseeruddin Shah, just his eyes could get a national award here. Like most directors, Imtiaz ali can’t let go of the world peace sermonising itch. It works when people have moist eyes, not here when things are flat. They should have given the Vedang Raina role to Diljeet. A role which required some powerful acting, to land the ache, which lingers for 78 years. Diljeet, however, is the one saying things like “I want to come back to India, coz motherland” Looks fake.

If they had cut it down by 30 minutes, it would have been a much better movie.

India needs to pay URGENT attention !!

This is not delimitation. This is political punishment.
Punishment for controlling population.
Punishment for investing in education.
Punishment for doing exactly what the nation asked us to do.

For decades, South Indian states acted responsibly , built human capital, strengthened public systems, and contributed disproportionately to India’s economy.

And now, the reward?
Fewer voices in Parliament.
Let that sink in.
States that governed better are being pushed to the margins, while political power shifts purely on population numbers.

This is not federalism. This is a structural imbalance in the making.
Is India still a Union of States or are we heading toward permanent dominance by a few, at the cost of others?

Representation cannot come at the cost of balance.

Democracy cannot mean silencing those who performed better.

If delimitation happens without safeguards, it won’t just redraw constituencies , it will redraw the idea of India itself.
SOUTH INDIA IS NOT ASKING FOR PRIVELEGE.
It is asking for fairness.

19 years ago, Dr. Anton Stanislaus Balasingham passed away at the age of 68.

It was a humongous loss to the Tamil Eelam struggle.

Dr. Balasingham was the voice of the Eelam Tamil nation, working as a diplomat of his people, a strategist, and a theoretical guide.

Anton was born in 1938, with his father hailing from the North and his mother from the East of Tamil Eelam. He spent most of his early years growing up in Karaveddy, where he developed an interest in leftist politics at a very young age. Despite coming from a deeply religious family, Balasingham became an agnostic early in life. Although he had a strong interest in Buddhism, the religious fanaticism prevalent on the Sri Lankan island played a significant role in his loss of belief in God.

Balasingham began his career working at Virakesari as a journalist and later as a translator. While employed as a translator at the British High Commission, he met his first wife. His life during this period was marked by hardship and sacrifice, as he balanced work, studies, and caring for his ailing wife. After six years of illness, she sadly passed away.

Anton later moved to London, where he wrote his dissertation on the psychology of Marxism. He soon became actively involved in advocating for Tamil rights, working with several Tamil organizations in London, as well as engaging with other revolutionary movements such as the PLO and EPLF. It was also in London that he met his Australian wife, Adele Balasingham. Together, they built a beautiful relationship rooted in principles, values, and solidarity.

Anton authored several important works on the Tamil Eelam liberation struggle, including writings on the Tamil national question, which made him a highly sought-after intellectual. Many Tamil liberation movements expressed interest in having someone of his knowledge and experience join their ranks. Anton met various groups in Tamil Nadu and London, but it was Velupillai Prabhakaran with whom he immediately formed a deep connection.

From their very first meeting, their shared commitment, values, and vision for liberation were evident. They became the yin and yang of the Tamil struggle: Prabhakaran as the military leader, and Anton as the theoretical guide.

Anton is remembered by people from all walks of life, ordinary Tamil citizens, fighters, journalists, Sri Lankan politicians, and Tamil activists, as an open and approachable individual.

There were no taboo questions with him. He was friendly, principled, and determined, someone willing to compromise, but never to sell out or surrender his people.

He was a man who could have lived a comfortable life in the West, yet chose instead to dedicate his life, alongside his wife, to the well-being and liberation of his nation. An intellectual in every sense, he was a selfless human being whose profound love for his people gave meaning to his life.

The Tamil nation deeply misses you and salutes you on the day of your martyrdom.
