🍁Low-dose methotrexate (LD-MTX) is a widely used treatment for various rheumatological and non-rheumatological conditions.

🍁Despite misconceptions stemming from its high-dose counterpart used in cancer therapy, current evidence supports the safety of LD-MTX.

🍁It is not associated with liver and lung fibrosis, and major concerns like bone marrow suppression and increased infection risk are rare.

🍁Hypersensitivity pneumonitis is a rare acute lung toxicity, but LD-MTX does not cause interstitial lung disease and may even be protective against it.

🍁There is a slight increased risk of skin malignancy, but no association with other cancers.

🍁LD-MTX is considered an immunomodulator rather than an immunosuppressant, making it safer for long-term use.

🍁It can cause mild gastrointestinal and hematological side effects, which are manageable.

🍁LD-MTX is teratogenic, so contraception is advised, but first-trimester exposure may be relatively safe.

🍁Overall, LD-MTX is a safe and effective treatment for autoimmune diseases, and its safety profile is distinct from high-dose methotrexate.
