Here's how close the Tories came to being the third party (by seats).

There are just 42 seats in England and Wales where their votes was bigger than the combined Lab/Lib Dem one.

They survived because there were just enough seats where the tactical vote choice wasn't obvious.

1) Absent tactical voting, Labour gets a *lower* vote share, not a higher one (see below)

2) People increasingly vote Green not just for the lolz, but because they don’t like Labour. Green vote up this year is a significant part of Lab vote down
