Today marks my last day at Affric as an Environmental Consultant. A bittersweet moment but I'm super excited to be joining @SMRU_Consulting in the New Year 😄 Can't wait to get started and looking forward to seeing some friendly faces on a more regular basis!
In underwater acoustics, 'source level' and 'sound pressure level' are expressed in decibels (dB), but represent different physical quantities whose values are not comparable. Our new infographic shines a light on these sometimes confused terms:

@AwberyTim To add to this I think it's also important that we give one un-named Albanian individual some recognition for taking @CetaceanBoy out on his boat to photo ID some dolphins, only to get fined by the authorities for being outside his designated fishing area 😩
@AwberyTim I think 'car break downs' sums the struggle of trying to acquire this data perfectly 😅 so fantastic to see the data finally published! Congratulations Tim!
Land based marine mammal watch yesterday from an old WW2 lookout along the Inner Moray Firth 🔭 Nice to be joined by 30+ BND, ~8 harbour porpoise and a minke whale!
Excited to announce the publication of a new paper that's been a labor of love for the last few years. https://t.co/dRM7DVK7qO - not possible without amazing coauthors from @_SMRU_@univofstandrews@DukeMarineLab and more. And to: @animalecology & @BritishEcolSoc.
Last night I swapped cetaceans and underwater acoustics for other echolocating mammalia, bats❗ This image perfectly depicts the typical spectogram of a vocalising common pipistrelle 🦇
Incredibly exciting day at work today because we got HYDROPHONES! 🎉 Looking forward to getting these two Chelonia F-PODs deployed for a marine mammal monitoring programme!
@AndyDoggerBank This is gonna sound obvious but take a look on Depop or Vinted for something. Pre-loved, not buying new and you might find something that fits the bill on the cheap!
Really looking forward to getting delved into this paper. Extremely important that consultancies consider at-sea distribution of pinnipeds outwith NATURA2000 sites throughout EIA processes. Hopefully this helps to inform marine spatial planning in a more robust manner!
New review and synthesis paper "Understanding the combined effects of multiple stressors: a new perspective on a longstanding challenge". Early output from Population Consequences of Multiple Stressors (PCoMS) working group. https://t.co/AXL3tN1QZN
