While health professionals participating in #crazysocks4docs gives me life, I want hospitals and health services to know that token gestures in the absence of structural change breed cynicism. Pay your JMOs their overtime, roster them humanely, THEN buy them coffees + socks.
86 days since I married this wonderful human with a handful of our closest family by our side, and 86 (+1) days until I get to do it all again surrounded by family and friends in Italy. So lucky to have a lifetime of adventures with this one. 💖
Switch operators are possibly the best part of hospital medicine. Last week I called switch and introduced myself as an ICU junior regs, and the delightful operator said "Jacoba? van Wees? You've moved up in the ranks! Congratulations! Good luck!" Literally made my week.
Meanwhile I got yelled at for moving a mattress (which I also returned in the morning) out of the *only* HMO room because apparently two adult colleagues should be forced to share a room on night shift...
A domestic has found the little room with a fold out chair that we sleep in on breaks on nights and has started making it up with fresh sheets every day, and honestly it’s done more to make me feel like a valued employee than anything else this week. I even got a towel tonight!!
@DanWilsonMD@RuralDocsVIC@robphair Congratulations Dan! Couldn't think of anyone better to fill some very big shoes - looking forward to seeing all you achieve! 😊

🤔Why do antibiotics reduce the risk of rebleeding after acute variceal hemorrhage?
I understand why antibiotics reduce infections, but the mechanism by which they reduce rebleeding is not immediately apparent.
Let's have a look.
Just under 6 months since my hip looked like this (ouch) and I officially have a surgeon/physiotherapy endorsed return to running plan! Just in time for summer (if Melbourne sorts itself out) 🏃♀️☀️🔨
@samanthamaiden @DrKate_Miller @amapresident@samanthamaiden - you've cleared never worked a night shift as a junior doctor being abused/spat/hit by patients & families. Our medical knowledge is constantly questioned (fair enough) - just look at what your employer published during the pandemic on a grand scale.
