A series of fairly wild thoughts from Dwarkesh. I thought I was bullish but even I am not assuming that the price to rent compute continues to go up!
I will say that I am in SV this week and Dwarkesh is capturing the zeitgeist.
Net, net public markets would probably be trading differently if they saw the OpenAI, Anthropic, Grok/Cursor and Open Source numbers over the last 6 weeks.
And really good for anyone who has installed compute coming off contract and/or is bringing on compute that is not already contracted. And credit slowing down capacity adds - if it happens - only exacerbates all of this.
The S&P 500 just posted its best weekly streak in 35 years.
The index has increased in 23 of the last 30 weeks, a joint record since 1989, according to Deutsche Bank.
Should the S&P 500 close up this week, it would mark the 24th weekly gain out of 31 previous weeks, a performance last seen in 1963.
During this period, the index has rallied by 25% and added ~$12 trillion in market cap.
This is one of the strongest markets of all time.
Excellent thread. Some additional thoughts:
1) Responsiveness is key. In retail, commercial brokers are infamous for not returning sign calls. We try to return all calls within 24 hours max
2) boutique brokerages can service small to mid-size listings ($1M-$2M) and local/regional clients sometimes better than a big name brokerage due to big name brokerages servicing a lot of institutional and larger type clients (who logically are their main priority)
3) boutique brokerages can justify more marketing expense to boost our listings because we don’t have a large team to split the fees with. A lot of the larger shops aren’t paying for loopnet anymore but boutique brokers can justify it on some listings other big name brokers can’t
If you work for a boutique brokerage shop, how do you position yourself to compete & have a shot against the bigger shops?
Let’s take a deeper dive on this.
Thread continues. 🧵
