There was this idea we had to wait for students to master all the consonants and short vowels before we started to teach phonics...this is untrue and as Holly Lane stated:
"that's probably the worst approach"
Interpreting research and translating it into classroom practice requires specialised knowledge and a lot of time, and the prospect can be daunting and demotivating for busy teachers who are newly aware of the Science of Reading.

@freddyreads I'm so curious to see more and see the scope and sequence used. Usually words like: under, happy, puppy, too, feels, are explicitly taught after a short vowel focus is mastered.
Doctor John had a great concern and question about tiers 2 and 3 levels of reading intervention in middle school.
We need to talk more about this.
