@Joe_Trinder Tēnā koe Joe. Am revising 1860s NZ history with my year 9 son for his exams in a couple of weeks. Your video was a great addition to the revision.
A good read by @JRubinBlogger in @washingtonpost “Centrism recognizes that capitalism and regulation, individual merit and social justice, and diversity and cohesion not only can coexist but must operate in tandem within a healthy, balanced society.”
@JohnAmaechi I was on a panel interviewing colleagues recently. I invited the unsuccessful colleague for a chat. Literally 20 mins before that meeting I watch @JohnAmaechi ‘s latest short video with suggestions for helping a colleague in this situation. Great advise John and great timing!
A lot of the organizations I'd label as post bureaucratic have hierarchy, roles, processes, etc. What sets them apart is not so much the generic "what" but the specific "how." E.g., hey have leaders, but they're not appointed top-down. People have formal roles, but these are broadly conceived with ample scope for personal growth. Processes and rules to guide decisions like strategy and resource allocation still exist (how could they not?), but they don't rely on administrative fiat.
I suppose one could call these organizations "better bureaucracies." But I think they represent a qualitatively different form. They're organizations that are able to get the benefits of bureaucracy (control, coordination, consistency) without paying the associated costs (inertia, incrementalism, insipidness).
@DrEricLevi@tom_peters Two of my fav people interacting on Twitter. Having worked in the people development space for >25 yrs (>6 years in HC). I get your frustration. However, I would replace “No one has ever felt they were…” with “Too often people have not been…” 💚🏥
So true.
HR - Human Restrictors often end up creating so many processes that restrict human potential and humanities itself. No one has ever felt they were supported or leveraged in a meeting with HR.
I loved working with Paul. As a non-lawyer working in a law firm (many moons ago) he was welcoming, engaging, and had a great sense of humour. He was wise and kind - so should make a terrific judge.
Paul Radich KC has been appointed a High Court Judge.
The first time I appeared in court was as Paul's junior. Paul is one of the nicest people I have ever worked with, and was incredibly generous with his time and advice when I was a very young lawyer.
Fantastic appointment.
Schwartz Rounds are one means to attend to the emotional welfare of healthcare staff, enabling them to gain different perspectives in the care of their patients and colleagues within system constraints.
With thanks to Dr Lillian Ng for the heavy lifting!

“If you’re aroused by women’s hair then you’re the problem.” Just wow. The courage of these women in the face of bullying clerics and potential harm from the state is breathtaking.
A good primer on #burnout via @nytimes. See ‘Beyond Burnout’ by @suzimcalpine for a fuller, deeper look at the issue including how to reduce it in workplaces. https://t.co/rElTc44L2u
Ping-Pong tables, breakfast spreads, paying a specialist to talk about diversity and group meditation sessions are not the solution to building company culture.
Culture is the accumulation of millions of choices made by each colleague.
Podcast of the month. Great insights into the (often unrecognised) value of experts deep within an organisation. (Especially like that the examples are in healthcare) https://t.co/uIohV8rVRQ
