My faith became healthier and more liberating when I gave up the idea that God wanted to save us for heaven rather than free us on earth. I let go of a God who is a hate-filled ruler and embraced a God who is a grace-filled lover.
And then there are the Christians who say “now our work begins…let’s care for them.” That’s terrifying: if you can’t care for people until you win, then your theology never saw their humanity in the first place. They were only pawns in your game. That’s not of God or Jesus.
What makes me most sick is that Christians will celebrate and believe that God made it so. No, this is not God. It is years of Christians waging religious war. It is not about protection, love, or morality. All of this is about one thing only: power. White power.
Evangelicals, is it possible that the reason America has so many non-Christians isn’t because we’re not spreading the gospel, but because we’re not living it?
There is no such thing as being “pro-life” while supporting laws that let children be shot in their schools, elders in grocery stores, worshippers in their houses of faith, survivors by abusers, or anyone in a crowded place.
It is an idolatry of violence. And it must end.
Oh Holy Night has a verse that was intentionally left out in the 1800’s (and STILL today)
“Truly He taught us to love one another; His law is Love and His gospel is Peace.
Chains shall he break, for the slave is our brother, and in his name all oppression shall cease.”
Sing it
We never put a limit on what men can achieve with enough hard work & ambition, but we’re constantly doubting what’s possible for women.
