Excited to share our new paper uncovering a surprising role for VTA GABA neurons in Pavlovian learning!

Excited to share my first paper from Inagaki Lab @MPFNeuro!
How does the “timer” in our brain control movement? We discovered specialized computational roles of the frontal cortex and striatum that implement such an action timer⏱️

Our scientists with over 150 collaborators have released the largest functional map and wiring diagram of the brain to date – seven years in the making.
Today’s 1.6 petabyte release marks a historic day for neuroscience. This moonshot milestone will further efforts towards understanding the cortical mechanisms of intelligence. Congratulations to the teams who made this possible.
In honor of Black History Month, we want to highlight a few of the outstanding Black neuroscientists we have interviewed! Now, more than ever, it is critical to strive for & celebrate DEI efforts in research & education—science is stronger when all voices are heard 💜
Many in biotech/private sector are boasting about their ways of funding and doing science
But they are staffed with PhDs and postdocs we train in our @NIH and @NSF funded labs in universities
With uni labs lacking funds to train, the private sector will be profoundly harmed
First they came for my diversity grant, and I did not freak out - because I still had an R01. Then they paused federal funding, and I did not freak out - because I had a start up package with central funds. Then they cut indirects, & there was no research left to freak out over
🎄PinkyCaMP- our christmas gift to you! 🎁: We are excited to present PinkyCaMP, the first mScarlet based calcium sensor with:
✨exceptional, brightness
✨phototability
✨and optogenetic compatability.
Check out our new preprint:

The latest @berke_lab paper in @PNASNews by my bff @DuhneMariana (with some contribution by yours truly) on cholinergic pauses in the striatum and the dopamine signal... What does the silence mean?

I love being a PhD student.
it feels like I’m expected to be miserable or overwhelmed.
but as a first-gen student, I’ve had to overcome a lot worse to get here.
to read and write and learn for a living feels like a gift that I hope I never take for granted, inshallah 🙏🏽
Excited to have Michel Fallah's preprint out!
Here we find surprising effects on locomotion and valence when stimulating basal ganglia inputs to the PPN in vivo.
And we comprehensively map the SNr and GPe synaptic connections to all the cell types in the PPN.
Our lab’s first review article is out! Here we explore the role of KCC2 in stress-related and substance use disorders. Check it out! https://t.co/ltjGJ78sKC
