@Gracedom3102 Actively practicing to not respond negatively to stressful situations that spoke your emotions. It will take a lot of trial and error to determine the best way to deal with controlling how you react to certain situations. #i2e21
@moses5892 @ethicsub I see what you are saying, but I can see this as rational as well. If you need to walk away from a conflict in order to not get hot headed and do something irrational then that is a valid way to cope. #i2e21
I really like the idea of excellence of character. It has always been something I’ve understood to be true before this course, that it doesn’t matter what happens to you in life, yet how you respond and react to what happens. #i2e21
@Parkerclass107 It sort of annoys me that he seems to say you can do the right thing, but it is still immoral if you do it for the wrong reason. Why should intent matter if you do the right thing? #i2e21
@KelzPag He was protecting his autonomy and preserving his life. The men he shot went against all codes of ethics by threatening his ability to live a structured life free from harm. 100% the right decision by the jury. #i2e21
@Gracedom3102 Autonomy is a very important thing for all aspects of life. In my opinion, we as humans, especially Americans, should be fully and 100% autonomous to act with free will without pressure from society or the government, so long as our actions don’t hinder others well being #i2e21
@JRJw44 @ProfessorDEG #i2e21 this is actually something I never considered. Things can easily get lost in translation, and even one word being mistranslated could throw an entire philosophy off, what a concept.
@KelzPag I found it quite difficult to understand. I could comprehend what Kant was getting at, but have trouble understanding how it makes any sense or is relevant to anything. Seems like nonsense in my opinion. #i2e21
@JulianaJjdenney I think if that’s the only way to stop an attack then it’s what must be done. Innocent people will die regardless, you might as well do what you can to minimize the number of people that do. Even if it means torturing the child of a terrorist.
@LowShamya#i2e21 In my opinion, no. I think that people should be give this information, but not forced. I am a firm believer in freedom of choice, and think that people should be able to chose for themselves with the information given to them, no need to force.
@Nicholas_Smith6@SamborskiLucas This is one thing I don’t like about the course is how broadly applicable it is to life. A lot of the time its hard for me to understand in which aspect these philosophies hold true and apply to. #i2e21
@JonathanDaity This is a very good point. We need to be safe with who is in power because the wrong people will name anything as a threat, and certain people as threats when in actuality they’re not, and it’s just an excuse to violate rights. #i2e21
@KelzPag#i2e12 in a situation like this where ambulances moving through the crowd is easily visible to the performer, and he did not stop the show I believe there is a clear violation that occurred.
@EthicsBabyy I think of Omelas as metaphorical. All societies thrive on a class system. There cannot be winners if there is no losers. There will always be a lower class that the upper class thrives off of, sadly. #i2e21
@juliejacobs07 Two words: money & power. That’s it. That’s all it takes for a leader with morale to ditch his morals and act on behalf of private interest, rather than the greater good. Politics is a dirty game. #i2e21
@2syon53 I really love this concept. Politicians are representatives of us, the people. We need full transparency in politics to know that we are truly being represented, which sadly hardly ever happens. #i2e21
@Emilylew0 It depends on how you define keeping your hands clean. If they must do something wrong but for a good reason, then I see it as the good outweighing the bad, meaning their hands are technically still clean as they acted in good morale.
#i2e21 I really liked the topic about honest political candidates not going far. It is a sad but evident truth in our world today. Nobody wants an honest candidate, they want comforting lies.
#i2e21 I’ve always thought thought of integrity as a positive word, but never really thought of the negative implications it could have that were presented to us. Refusing to sacrifice your integrity can result in a selfish action in a certain scenario.
I agree more with Mill then I do with singer when it comes to the discussion of pleasure in animals vs humans. I agree with Mill more because humans have the higher pleasure that comes from our sapience and ability to live human experiences, where as animals do not #i2e21
