@MatthewCappucci I’ll add that missing dozens of launches across a large region creates a network-wide data void that can affect model initialization over thousands of square miles. Missing so much data issue doesn’t mean every forecast becomes wrong.
The issue is that uncertainty increases.
@MatthewCappucci This. It’s a big time issue. A medical professional would likely (I presume) be less confident in a patient diagnosis if you remove a crucial test. Weather forecasting works the same way. Weather balloons are an important diagnostic tool to understanding the atmosphere above us.
