While the strike in Coventry rumbles on, @CCCLeader still refuses to attend any meetings with the key workers who he was lauding during the pandemic.
@coventrycouncil has responsibility for services. It’s time this character showed some leadership - he’s paid well enough for it.
@coventrycouncil are paying drivers from another firm almost double what they pay their own staff to try & break the strike there. 1 minute they tell workers they can’t afford a pay rise and the next they’re paying out millions to scab drivers. Stand firm, we’re all behind you.
Unite, Unite we stand up and we fight 🎵 that concludes the #PayTheRate rally today whoever in the words of @UniteSharon “This is just the start not the end”
Thank you to everyone in person and online for support today #CovBinStrike

'Rank incompetence' from @coventrycc means an all-out strike action will recommence on Mon 28 March.
@UniteSharon said, "George Duggins and the other councillors have scandalously squandered millions and refused to attend a single meeting with Unite."

As we reported yesterday the disgraceful Labour Council in Coventry has suspended one of the strikers’ reps there. We are asking everyone to sign and share this petition to the council.
This could happen to any one of us standing up for ourselves.

Coventry council have suspended one of the reps. Not only are they content trying to pay below the rate for the job, now they’re trying to terrify people.
Today they went down to the council offices demanding a meeting with a leader of the council. They refused.

#covbinstrike - 3 weeks in. Still strong & united. The council has now spunked in the region of £3m on trying to break us, far in excess of what it would cost to come to a deal.
Make no mistake, we’re not going anywhere. Councillors need to meet with us & come to an arrangement.
Breaking News!
@UniteLondonEast Branch LE/7337L this evening collectively decided to donate £5,000 to the #CovBinStrike.
The branch has also planned to support the drivers going forward in other ways. This is what being part of a trade union is all about. ✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 #Solidarity
Residents in Coventry will be aware that strike action is ongoing. Instead of coming to an arrangement with the workers who kept this borough running. The people who spent the pandemic working from home on 6 figures are spending a fortune in public money prolonging this mess.
They are spending far in excess than it would cost to fix this dispute. This isn’t about politics for us, this is about a fair day’s pay for a day’s work.
The council seems determined to dig its heels in and turn this into a row while turning parts of our city into a tip.
