That happened with my cousin watching her mom care for my grandmother. She said when her mom got old she would not help but after time passed and her mom got old she asked her mom to come live with her so she could care for her. It’s hard for a young person to imagine giving up their life to care for someone. Isn’t it somewhat selfish to want them to? I’m doing it and I had to quit my job and my time is no longer my own. I’m not just driving, making meals and giving pills. As the body gets weaker and weaker it’s harder to care for someone especially if the caretaker is aging. It seems better to work on one’s own health, exercise and eat right and try to avoid future dependency.

So take money from what was paid into it, isn’t that theft ? I have an idea, if someone accumulates wealth while working give them the option to not pay into SS then exclude them from taking when they retire. IRMAA already reduces SS for wealthier retirees who need to preserve wealth to cover their life span and who may be plagued with medical expenses. IRMAA hit my Mom after my dad passed, now everything is calculated for her as a single person. Wealth is relative.

Everyone is complaining about costs but I see so many people driving new cars, I’m not mine is 20 years old and still runs great. Huge houses where only two people live. The most updated iPhones, computers etc. Then I drive by the house where I grew up 60 years ago. Very small home for 6 family members, one car garage for the only car we owned. Is it really that bad or are we overbuying and spending too much (except for insurance and taxes).
