Dear Amnesty International Urgent Action Team,
I am writing to request that Amnesty International issue an Urgent Action regarding the arbitrary detention and possible enforced disappearance of Mr. Shaukat Nawaz Mir, a senior member of the Core Committee of the Awami Action Committee in Pakistani-administered Jammu and Kashmir.
Mr. Mir was taken into custody by state authorities, and more than two days have now passed without him being produced before any court of law. His family and legal representatives have not been informed of his exact whereabouts, the legal basis for his detention, or the authority under which he is being held. Reports also indicate that he may have been transferred to an undisclosed location outside Pakistani-administered Jammu and Kashmir, further increasing concerns for his safety and legal rights.
The continued refusal to acknowledge his detention before a competent judicial authority raises serious concerns that he may be the victim of enforced disappearance and arbitrary detention, both of which are prohibited under international human rights law. Pakistan, as a State Party to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), is obligated to protect the rights to liberty, security of person, due process, and a fair trial.
This case is not an isolated incident. Reports indicate that hundreds of political activists, lawyers, and ordinary civilians have been detained across Pakistani-administered Jammu and Kashmir in recent weeks. Many have allegedly been denied prompt access to lawyers and family members, while severe restrictions on communications and movement have made independent monitoring extremely difficult.
Given the urgency of this situation, I respectfully request that Amnesty International:
• Issue an Urgent Action on behalf of Mr. Shaukat Nawaz Mir.
• Call upon the Pakistani authorities to immediately disclose his whereabouts and legal status.
• Demand that he be brought without further delay before an independent and impartial court.
• Ensure he is granted immediate access to legal counsel, family members, and any medical care he may require.
• Call for the release of Mr. Mir unless he is promptly charged with a recognizable criminal offence and afforded a fair trial in accordance with international standards.
• Investigate the broader pattern of arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, restrictions on peaceful assembly and expression, and other alleged human rights violations in Pakistani-administered Jammu and Kashmir.
The international community's attention is urgently needed to help safeguard the lives and fundamental rights of Mr. Mir and many others reportedly detained without due process.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this urgent appeal. We hope Amnesty International will take immediate action to help prevent further human rights violations.
Yours sincerely,
Khizar Hayat

Calgary, Alberta – June 8, 2026
A large number of Kashmiri Canadians and supporters of human rights gathered today in downtown Calgary in front of the Harry Hays Federal Building to express their deep sorrow and concern over the tragic events unfolding in Rawalakot, Pakistani-Administered Jammu and Kashmir (PAJK).
Participants paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the recent violence, offered prayers for the recovery of the injured, and expressed solidarity with the affected families. Speakers emphasized that Kashmiri Canadians have close family members, relatives, and friends in the region and are deeply concerned about their safety and well-being.
The gathering expressed profound concern over the deteriorating situation in Rawalakot and reports of the use of force against civilians. Participants urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and to protect the lives and fundamental rights of the population.
The rally called upon the international community, human rights organizations, and humanitarian agencies to closely monitor the situation and take urgent steps to prevent further loss of life.
The participants demanded:
• An immediate end to the use of force against civilians.
• The withdrawal of paramilitary forces from PAJK.
• The prompt return of all deceased persons to their families with dignity and respect.
• Unrestricted access for medical and humanitarian assistance to affected areas.

Strongly Condemns State Violence Against Peaceful People in Pakistan-Occupied Jammu Kashmir
Last night, police, Rangers, and the Punjab Constabulary opened fire near Khaigala town when members of the Action Committee were travelling to Rawalakot after attending a public meeting۔
Strongly condemn the U.S. military attack on Venezuela and the forcible capture of its president as an act of aggression and a blatant violation of international law. This assault on sovereignty threatens regional peace and demands global condemnation and accountability.

Pakistan’s authorities stopped JKLF Zonal G S Mr. Abid Ali Raja from travelling to perform Umrah—without reason or legal order. This is a clear violation of basic human rights.
Repression of peaceful political voices in POJK continues.

We stand with the innocent victims of the proxy war in Jammu & Kashmir—children, women, civilians—caught between two occupying forces.
It's time to withdraw all armies and let the people decide their own future.

I strongly condemn the state terrorism and aggression against the Baloch people. The unjust arrest of @drmaharang Baloch and other activists is a blatant attempt to silence voices demanding justice and rights. Repression will not erase the truth.
