@BhallaResearch @AlanYuNeph @Dan_Batlle The increase in expression NaDC1 in the apical membrane will lead to reabsorption of citrate and low urine citrate excretion. If citrate falls with HCTZ, we must replete K to avoid hypocit.

@BhallaResearch @AlanYuNeph @Dan_Batlle I still need to read the paper, but HCTZ can reduce urine citrate excretion through hypokalemia. The theory is that hypokalemia can lead to intracellular acidosis in the proximal tubule where NaDC1 is expressed. The fall in intracellular pH will activate expression of NaDC1.
