That means you'll eventually end up in the middle of nowhere with no data, no way to top up your data (cause you need data for that), literally useless

So you can't ever use it as your main telephone carrier!

someone made up a story about a yc partner selling batch spots. it was quickly debunked, but it got me thinking about what this place has meant to us, and why it upsets me to see people tear it down

@maebert and i went through the batch last fall. they bet on us before there was much evidence to go on, then taught us the unglamorous stuff, like how to talk to customers and how to sell. yc has always worked this way. take unproven people, often without the right schools or resumes, and make them legible to investors

worth remembering what seed investing looked like before yc existed. convertible notes sitting as debt on your balance sheet. heavy dilution. technical founders getting swapped out for professional ceos. yc invented the SAFE and dragged the whole ecosystem toward founders, including the founders who never got in. standard capital is doing the same thing to the series a now, and that lineage runs straight back to yc

from the outside it looks like an institution. once you’re inside you find it’s just a group of former founders who work absurdly hard on something they could have retired from years ago. they remember what the other side of the table feels like, and it shows

we wouldn’t be where we are without them. grateful they exist

This professor is incredible - he went blind at 17, learned Braille and then did a PhD at Harvard before teaching at Brown.

He said if the midterm distribution didn’t resemble that of the final exam he would only count the final and “of the 27 who did not show up [for the final], 22 had scored a perfect 100 in the midterm exam.”

A Brown professor gave his students a take-home midterm exam. After suspecting many cheated using AI, he made the final in-person. The orange dots are the midterm scores and the gray dots are the final scores. Looks like all but 3 cheated on the midterm.

I met OG indie hacker @jessethanley in Japan 🇯🇵

He's living such a crazy life, and I don't know where to start, so here are random facts:

- He's running his SaaS @Bento solo and makes a ridiculous amount of money
- Unlike most founders, he knows how much is enough and works 4 hours/day
- He started indie hacking in 2015
- He ran a marketing agency for 5 years before building a product
- His SaaS was profitable from day 0 because he built it for his agency.
- He designed his SaaS with a real human touch, and it feels like you're entering his world when you sign up
- He taught himself how to code (pre-AI)
- He speaks Japanese and has lived in Japan for 7 years
- Being a dad made him more productive, not less
- He bench presses 135kg
- He's happy, positive, kind, and a great conversationalist
