@Cameron49368604 Yes! I prefer orig. versions but I am not opposed to covers, especially if I perceive them to be “better” than the original. I think orig. versions would be better to watch live but regardless, live performances will thrive from their various social/enjoyment aspects as you said!
@BlakeZoeFrance1 the pandemic definitely made live music so much more pleasurable/appreciated. (Ex: the Cavendish concert, I read it was the biggest turnout due to the lack of live performances in recent years) As for recording tech. despite pros/cons I agree, it hasn’t changed the demand!
I agree with Wald’s statement however live music is still valued for social/pleasure aspects. Recording tech. has been controversial - praised for producing “perfect” pitch & overused making “real” talent hard to decipher. Nonetheless live consumption still thrives. #S22POPMUS
@DevonTobin01 Yes, it’s definitely an imitation aimed to create “safer” music performed by teen idols. And although it would be wrong to value schlock, it still has importance in the roots of music and has created a gateway for boundaries to give rightful credit to artists! Great post :)
@kona_miura Agree on all points! Without the recreation of music from recognized artists of today’s generation we probably wouldn’t know a lot of the “older” songs, I think covers (giving credit ofc) are very beneficial in cultural dissemination. And yes, with no proper credit it is Schlock!
Despite criticism to Schlock, it shouldn’t be dismissed. Every version/type of music should acknowledge the long history in borrowing of ideas between artists. Schlock is valued for transforming musical boundaries to credit owners and marketing “safe”music for kids. #S22POPMUS
#S22POPMUS Lyrics/song techniques are an artists way to connect to their music & audiences. I think Ray used a breaking voice to show his connection to the lyrics, his music, & to express sentiment/heartfelt emotion. Music was much more than just sound, he made it very personal.
@svernb Ray’s style of singing definitely aimed to connect with his audiences, he was so expressive and sentimental and (for me at least) it truly makes you feel the way he is on a deeper level.. far beyond just glancing at the lyrics solo
@BlakeZoeFrance1 I agree, I instantly felt connected with his music through his style and technique of singing. He sings straight from his heart and I believe his motive is to make you feel what he’s feeling or to get up, dance, and sing along depending on the track !
@MadilynM5 Can’t agree more! I wrote similarly on how I create playlists depending on my mood which helps me express how I feel in a given moment. Many people, I feel, do the same!! Sharing our interests through music really helps us to connect and create our own identities!
@BrittHanlon6 This is very accurate for me! I have multiple playlists tailored to various moods and play them accordingly, expressing how I feel. I also share and “steal” a lot of music from friends as we all seem to have similar interests, as you said this helps share and express ourselves!
#S22POPMUSNew streaming devices allow us to express/explore our thoughts, feelings, and emotions when listening to certain types of music. It helps us find those with similar interests creating a social group. For me, I have customized playlists I access depending on my mood.
@tajsquires Totally agree, although artists produce similar tracks and what seems like random lyrics, it is not fair to assume that it doesn't have some importance to them. As you said, songs are still valuable regardless of meaning, the beat and listener amt. seem to matter more nowadays
@NicksMusic2011 It is undoubtedly a lot "simpler" in comparison to traditional forms of music and much less thought provoking. Like yourself, I think people will listen regardless if its deemed "dumbed down", after all it is for personal enjoyment !
Pop music has become notorious for seemingly random, futile lyrics but I disagree it dumbs down culture. Music can still be listened to solely for enjoyment, but that is not to say that artists, now, lack expression of feelings and deeper messages within their lyrics. #S22POPMUS
