The Connection Between Modiji's 7 Appeals and Jainism
1. Prioritize Work From Home + Avoid Foreign Travel: In Jainism, this is called Digpariman Vrat. A vow where one voluntarily limits the boundaries of their physical activity. Only move as far as necessary. WFH is its micro form, avoiding foreign travel is its macro form.
2. Avoid Buying Gold: This connects directly to Aparigraha, non-possessiveness. Gold is mostly bought out of a tendency to accumulate, not out of necessity. Aparigraha says, do not collect more than you need.
3. Reduce Petrol and Diesel, Use Public Transport: In Jainism, Ahimsa is not limited to not harming living beings. Causing damage to air, water and earth is also considered violence. Burning unnecessary fuel is exactly that.
4. Cut Down Use of Cooking Oil: Jainism has a principle called Bhogopbhog Pariman Vrat. Setting a conscious limit on what you consume daily. This restraint matters both for personal health and for society.
5. Move Towards Natural Farming: Chemical farming destroys countless microorganisms living in the soil. Jainism considers this violence. Natural farming is Ahimsa in practice.
6. Adopt Swadeshi: This connects to both Aparigraha and Achaurya. The pull towards foreign brands is often driven by the desire to show off and accumulate. Choosing Swadeshi is choosing to be a conscious and restrained consumer.
The reasons behind these appeals are far larger, economic, geopolitical and global. We understand that. But the wisdom that circumstances are teaching us today, our religion and culture gave us long before any circumstance demanded it.

India is set to become home to the world’s largest museum with the upcoming Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum in Delhi.
Envisioned as a comprehensive cultural institution, the museum will span over 5,000 years of Indian civilisation, documenting not just artefacts, but the evolution of ideas, art, science, governance, belief systems, and everyday life across eras. More than a physical space, it represents an attempt to bring coherence to India’s vast and layered historical narrative.
The scale of this initiative marks an important shift in how cultural memory is being preserved and presented. Museums of this nature have the power to shape public understanding by offering context, continuity, and depth, moving beyond fragmented interpretations of history. The success of such an institution will lie not only in its size, but in the rigour of its curation, scholarship, and storytelling.

The history of the Adina Masjid in Malda is being revisited after new statements were made in Parliament...
The BJP state president in Bengal, Shamik Bhattacharya, has claimed that the mosque was built on the site of an Adinath temple that was demolished. He raised this matter in the Rajya Sabha, which has started a new debate in political circles.
Bhattacharya said that he did not raise this to create conflict, but because he believes “it was originally a temple.”
According to him, this is not a temple-mosque or Hindu-Muslim issue. He said that Sikandar Shah was a plunderer who destroyed an Adinath temple and built the mosque in its place. He added that remains of the temple can still be seen today, such as lotus motifs, symbols of deities and even an image of Lord Ganesha.
He also mentioned that in photos shared by TMC MP Yusuf Pathan, symbols of a temple are visible inside the mosque structure. Bhattacharya claimed that “this is not a mosque, it is a temple,” and that the 72 communities in the region want their temple back.
Adina Masjid is located in the Malda district of West Bengal.
According to historians, it was built in 1369 by Sultan Sikandar Shah and is considered the largest mosque of the Ilyas Shahi dynasty. At that time, it was known as a grand example of Bengal’s architecture.
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has declared it a monument of national importance. ASI states that the structure is based entirely on Islamic architecture, and currently no religious worship is allowed inside it.
Some Hindu organisations like the VHP and several BJP leaders have claimed that the mosque was built after demolishing an ancient Adinath temple. They say that the walls, pillars and stones inside the mosque contain carvings and designs that resemble temple architecture.
This issue has been raised earlier as well, in 2022 and 2023.
In May 2022, BJP leader Rathindra Bose wrote on social media that an Adinath temple exists beneath the mosque. That same year, the VHP also claimed that temple-style carvings are visible inside the mosque.
In February 2023, Hiranyamay Goswami, the chairman of Vrindavan University Trust, visited the mosque with some priests and said that symbols of deities can clearly be seen there. The administration had to intervene to manage the situation.

The first Dhwajarohan anniversary of Shree Shantinath Jinalay, Tajpuri was celebrated recently.
A few years ago, the LVJST survey team discovered this ancient temple in a completely collapsed state, hidden inside dense vegetation on the riverbank.
LVJST took up the responsibility of preserving and restoring the site and completed the work in record time. This revival led to a grand Pratishtha Mahotsav after many decades and brought the Tajpuri Sangh together again.
As we mark the first anniversary of the Dhwajarohan, we remain committed to protecting and restoring Jain heritage across Gujarat.
