OpenAI's apps in Chatgpt are a great example of how early we have been with agentic design patterns. This update is like going from DOS to the early stages of Windows or Mac.
We've been living largely in a text-only interaction paradigm for nearly 3 years with AI, yet if history tells us anything, we know that the tools are going to have to get far more interactive.
Text is great as an input because you can quickly fire off actions and tasks to an agent, but it's not the best for reviewing what the agent is doing or how to execute subsequent actions. And, inherently, many of the final outputs of AI agents are dynamic in nature, which is another limitation of text-only interfaces.
For instance, you may want to generate a new set of documents in Box, which is an easy text action to kick off, but very quickly you want to review the output, make modifications via an agent, or interact with the content in some way visually.
Chatgpt's apps are a great first entry into what disparate interactive GUIs could look like when showing up in a common interface. They nailed a bunch of the right early interaction challenges in this first rev.
One thing that will become tricky of course is how the industry coalesces on some form of standardization for these interaction patterns; we're most likely in for a set of OS wars like we've seen on desktop and mobile, now with potentially even higher stakes.
Either way it's going to be a wild time with a ton of changes to what the future of software will look like.
Last week @GoogleAds announced 3 main updates. One of them was "One Headline Responsive Search Ads". They predict this would perform better.
Also, Other headlines will now be eligible to show at the beginning of the descriptions section.

I audit a lot of ad accounts, and most of the time I observe one common thing.
A mismatch in messaging between the ad source and the landing page.
Ensure you deliver what you highlight in your ad. If it doesn't, the user will bounce.
