Autistic children come to A&E in mental health crisis from as young as eight https://t.co/chcgrECCin Truly harrowing findings. Mental health screening needs to be done early and regularly.

An autism diagnosis, but where’s the treatment? https://t.co/HyvzGorPMC Indeed. The 'support needs not labels' is a great tagline but what sort of support - or intervention - is actually available?

I 100% support this petition asking @RCPsych to stop diagnosing children with personality disorders. When my diagnosis was changed from bipolar to borderline in my late 20s, there was a noticeable shift in the way medical professionals treated me. My behaviour hadn’t changed, but the whole atmosphere was different. I was taken less seriously, treated less kindly and generally pigeonholed as ‘difficult’.
As the petition says, I can’t see any benefit to attaching such a stigmatising label to a child. A diagnosis is not required to help young people access evidence-based care. Please sign and share!
Take this passage (p. 12) on neurodiversity from the Fonagy report.
The highlighted segments, the meaning of which is not altered by the sentences in between, seem to me to imply that some of those identifying as neurodivergent would not meet criteria for diagnosis.

Separating neurodevelopmental and psychiatric services: clinical hazard? https://t.co/xaJ9iHNLbC So perhaps less 'autism or ADHD specific assessments' and more comprehensive, condition-plus wide-ranging, non-assumptive assesments instead?
Globalmente estamos teniendo un incremento en el número récord de personas diagnosticados con problemas de salud mental y trastornos del neurodesarrollo. Es urgente analizar las causas y avanzar en respuestas racionales a un problema que está sobrepasando los sistemas de salud.
ADHD and autism at risk of over-diagnosis, says government review https://t.co/Nzic4w2naY The Fonagy report drops today. Nothing really unexpected given the media leaks but the private assessment sector is going to see some changes.
