The Nordic–India Leaders’ Summit Joint Statement (19 May 2026) affirmed the Nordic–India Dialogue as a strategic and timely initiative.
Launched in 2023, the Nordic-India Dialogue proceeded with its first in-person meeting in Oslo, Norway (2024) and a second in Reykjavík, Iceland (2025). Ananta looks forward to hosting the 3rd edition in New Delhi later this year.

Ananta Aspen Centre and the Institute of International Affairs at the University of Iceland (IIA) jointly organised a session on Blue Economy and Maritime Security: India and the Nordics in the Arctic for the Arctic Circle India Forum 2025.
The session explored how India and the Nordic nations can jointly contribute to sustainable and inclusive Arctic development amid rapid environmental and geopolitical changes.
Key takeaways include the importance of strategic partnerships and the role of policy innovation in enhancing Arctic engagement. Speakers highlighted the potential for Nordic technology transfer to support sustainable development in the Global South and underscored joint initiatives on climate resilience, maritime security, and safe navigation.
Indrani Bagchi and Maria Joseph co-wrote a chapter in the report “Global Bridges: The EU and the Global South for an inclusive multilateralism Ideas from Europe, India, Brazil and South Africa.”
The chapter explores India’s evolving role in global governance, emphasizing its push for a reformed multilateral order that addresses the concerns of emerging powers and the Global South. Despite being a founding proponent of multilateralism, India critiques the current system for marginalizing developing nations and perpetuating outdated power dynamics. It advocates for greater representation, as seen in its successful inclusion of the African Union in the G-20. India’s initiatives include revitalizing the WTO, promoting resilient supply chains, and fostering regional and thematic alliances like the QUAD, BRICS, and the International Solar Alliance. The chapter highlights India's active leadership during crises, such as equitable vaccine distribution during COVID-19 and addressing food and energy shortages in the Global South. Balancing its stance as a collective partner, not a leader, India positions itself as a bridge between developed and developing nations, championing multipolarity and cooperation over polarized geopolitics.
